Ok ..! Lets keep it simple ... Just upgraded my PC, this is my spec: PIV 3.00gHz s478-80 / MOBO Intel D865PERLX / 2x 512Mo Corsair 3200 400mHz / and ... 2 Hard drive RAPTOR SATA from Western Digital ....

Now .. I want to install Windows XP on one of my SATA RAPTOR HD. Now this is my question: Do I need a bootable copy of Windows XP pro to install it on a SATA RAPTOR ???

Do I need to do this ??

- Go in BIOS, set the 1st bootable drive on Pionneer DVD (wich is my CD reader)
- Restart the PC
- A real copy of Win XP PRO should start automaticaly ?? (I have THE windows XP copy that everyone in the world got and it doesnt boot ... I know shame on me ..
- If the Windows XP start automaticaly, when it look at my config I hit the F6 key and insert the SATA drivers I haved downloaded from Intel's web site
- Install Windows XP
- Everything should work no1

IS IT RIGHT ??????
Is those steps okay ???

If yes I really need to buy a real Windows XP at the mall ? Because the real XP is bootable ??


I really hope iam enough clear, I NEED HELP! Can't wait much longer to use this new syst.!!!!

ahhhh i ran into the same problem myself.

Well 1st of all i had to play aroudn with the boot order a bit, i did floppy - CD-Rom - SATA array

What you should do is when you press F6 nothing should happen, until a little bit later before it loads the generic SCSI drivers. It will ask you for the disc with the drivers. They should have been included on the CD-Rom that came with your comp. You'll need to copy the drivers and the "TEXTSETUP.OEM" file maybe it's just "TEXT.OEM" or something like that.

Anyrate that .OEM file has to be on the floppy disk along with the driver. And that should be it. If you get Windows Setup to boot and miss the F6 or don't have the drivers the only problem is that it won't be able to indentify the SATA drive when you get the the partition manager part of the installation.

Ok ... I already have the SATA driver on a floppy disk with the TEXTSETUP.OEM on it .... my problem is that I dont have a bootable copy of Windows XP pro .... the CD-ROM dont see it when its booting.

So iam wondering if I buy a real copy of Windows XP pro, is it a bootable version ???


Another question, is possible to install Windows98se on a SATA RAPTOR ?? I think no, because the installation of Win98 doesnt ask to install the SCSI driver by pressing F6 ... right ?

I can install Windows XP on my old WD 40go 7200rpm IDE, and my Windows recognize my RAPTOR SATA drive as a second hard drive .... and it work well, but I want the RAPTOR to be my C: my main HD. I haved installed WIndows XP on it (the raptor) but when i disconnect the WD 40Go 7200rpm and leave only the SATA RAPTOR with (XP on it) I got a NTDLR is missing, press ctrl+alt+del .......... damn its complicated!!

Also ... where do you put the jumpers on the SATA RAPTOR to make the HD the primary HD ???
