I am working on a project where I am saving a ton of pictures of various places in New Mexico on my hard drive. I had some computer problems over the last couple weeks, the main problem was that the memory test was failing. I had one of the DIMMs in the wrong socket. That might have been the only problem. Memory tests pass now.
However, now when I save to my HD, it's slower than it was before. Before, I would click "save as," it would let me browse to the directory, I clicked "save" and it would be instantaneous. Now, Firefox stalls until the file is done downloading.
One thing I thought might be the culprit was having two HDs on the same IDE channel. My main HD is an 80gb WD ATA100 that is about 40% full. I have a 200gb Maxtor slave with nothing on it. I have heard that an ATA100 will run slower if there's another drive on the same channel. I took the Maxtor off and there is no difference.
Does this sound like a memory issue, a hard drive issue or a Firefox issue? Any idea how to fix it?
