There's nothing Bollywood about the movie. It wasn't made by the Hindi movie industry in Bombay, and it's not a musical. Bollywood makes movies about fair-skinned rich people who live in fake Western style houses, wear jeans, and dance spontaneously to music, while completely ignoring the bleak, depressing widespread poverty of India in its own backyard.
I haven't been back to India in a couple of years. Every Bollywood movie that I've seen is fake. Everything on the Indian satellite TV is fake. This movie is the most realistic depiction of India I've ever seen. For the first time in years, I felt like I was back. Great film, though quite disturbing at times, especially the maiming of beggar children, because it was - sadly - so real.

I saw it today. I must also agree that it was a great film. The setting and style is comparable to City of God. The ending, however, caught me off guard. The tune was definitely catchy. But I'm still wondering what Jai Ho means. :/

What's this? An ATOT thread about a movie that doesn't include dozens of replies saying "it's overhyped"? That's impressive.

Typical Bollywood melodrama now wanting to gain Hollywood acceptance. Plot was far-fetched and the acting was mediocre. Of course, everyone of Indian origin has logged into IMDb and has cast and unbaised rating of 10/10.

Good thing I had free tickets.
