Ok, you guys convinced me to wait for SB, so how many of you guys are planning on getting one within the first week of release?
I plan to wait for lga 2011 and see what the options are. 4 channel memory hopefully.
I'm waiting for Sandy Bridge, but I'll skip the initial rush and do my build sometime around April.
Of course, SB won't be new and cool then, and I'll just be one of the herd, but I'm hoping for G3 SSDs and some price drops in video cards before I finally pull the trigger. It'll give me time to read up on reviews of the motherboards and maybe even get a new stepping on the 2600K's.
Then you'll be reading all the threads titled "should I buy 1155 SB now or wait for 2011 SB???? HELP!!!"

ROFL! So true!
After seeing how long the X58 platform lasted, I was/am disappointed I did not jump on it back on '08. Learned my lesson and will not wait to jump on a new platform.
unless they just love burning $ for the latest toys.
Good lord. There's zero reason for current i5/i7 quad owners to even consider SB, unless they just love burning $ for the latest toys. Most people are oc'd close to or over 4ghz already, I wouldn't think SB is gonna magically make anything more than ~10% faster at most.
If the things OC to like 5ghz, then I'll be dead wrong of course.
I think SB is most appealing to weaker AM3 and Socket 775 users at this time, of which there are a ton out there still hanging on.
I don't expect bugs from initial SB, after all, this is a further revision of the existing architecture, not a whole new wheel.

Yeah... and if I procrastinate, it will become "2011 SB or Ivy Bridge! OMG! HELP!!!11"
No worries for me, though. I've got my own tick/tock schedule. New build every three years. Eighteen months later, it gets a memory upgrade and video upgrade if needed. Eighteen months after that, it becomes a Linux server, and is replaced with a new build.
Perhaps, but, as you said, there are loads of 775 users looking to upgrade. Including me. After looking at the options, I see no reason to pick up a 760 when the SB is going to be a faster CPU at a similar price.
If I had an i7, then, you'd have a point, however, even then I'd say that the SB upgrade is worth while if only to get moved over to the 1155 socket and allow for cheap upgrades to Ivy Bridge in the future. Sure it means dumping cash into upgrades, but anyone with an i7 who has their eyes on SB has probably already come to terms with that.
New cpu, new platform, new mobo...I'll be waiting a while to let the early adopters locate and debug issues.
I make it a rule to never buy the first retail stepping of a new CPU. B3 Kenstfield, ugh, G0 was better AND silly cheaper some 6 months later.
