I didn't find him to be a good SC justice. Mostly because of how outwardly political he became and how his opinion on how strictly the Constitution/Bill of Rights should be applied constantly shifted based on what case was being considered. But, in any case, RIP.

And I'll be surprised if Obama can get anyone confirmed, but we'll see. The Senate used to be more reasonable than the House, but Ted Cruz is a senator so...

There's no way in hell Obama is going to get to appoint Scalia's replacement.

There are 81 Federal Judge/Justices positions vacant. About half have pending nominations that have been pending for 1 or more years.

The GOP controlled Senate can easily stall until summer recess(August) without much effort(ie: never having to vote against confirmation and not having to use the nuclear option). Since it's a presidential election year the Senate won't meet much at all once they get back from Summer Recess, until after the election.

Theoretically, the Senate could refuse to confirm a nominee as with Robert Bork but I doubt Obama will nominate anybody who's nearly as controversial.

McConnell is too smart to play the obstructionist in a presidential election year, I think. It's bad for business & bad for the Court to leave open the possibility of a 4-4 tie.
