Wel you can fertilize if you want but unless your getting rain, I wouldn't . As for the weed and feed any temperature over 85 F and you will toast your pretty green carpet. The reason its on clearance is because its out of season. How do I know this well I work for Spectrum brands .We make vigoro for Home Depot and Sta-Green for Lowes the scotts is a good product but normaly overpriced if you buy it hold on to it till the weather cools and the rains come.Otherwise buy mine when the weathers better
guess it's okay to fertilize here in FL... it's been raining for 1.5 months straight (sunshine state my ass). I agree that Scotts is overpriced, check out what the lawn service guys use in your area... mine always use Lesco (I think it's a local fertilizer company), but this is like the best buy at Home Depot too... that's what I stick to and it works great.

We don't get much rain in Southern California and it's been especially dry this year. Since we live in a desert just about everybody has automatic watering sytems. Good soak the day before, apply to foliage when dry, water in well. Weed-n-feed calls for application to wet foliage and not watering in . Definitely not for overly hot weather. The chems in weed-in-feed are scary too since I have kids playing out on the lawn.
West coast also does not get the amount of atmospheric deposited nitorogen that the Midwest and East Coast experiences. A general lawn care practice is too not bag your clipping but let them go back on the lawn and fertilize in smaller concentrations more ofter.
