First I want to thank all, for I have learned alot from these forums this is my second PC I have built but I am having a problem with my screen size: It starts off small (I/3 the size of the screen) and as it warms up it covers 2/3. I have tried settings-control panel-display:screen area shows 640x480 (60 hz 1600x1200, have gone under advanced and tried the vertical and horizontal adjustments with no changes even after reboot. SPECs : epox ddr 8kha+,256 crucial ddr 2100, 1400 tbird,ATI radeon ddr 32 m and (don't laugh) packard bell 15" monitor, WIN 98SE. 1). what else should I try 2) what should my cpu clock be set at, cpu ratio, cpu vcore voltage, vdimm voltage? Will I be able to adjust my screen size with the controls on a samsung 955 df monitor?
. Please forgive me if I don't respond immediately to all responses...I'm a blue collar and go to bed early, get up early and arrive late....job is 90 miles away each way......thanks again

Sounds like the monitor is going out. I've had 2 PB monitors die over the years (back in the early 90's).

CPU FSB should be set to 133MHz. It'll run at 266MHz. The FSB of the T-Birds are like DDR memory. Two actions per clock cycle - 1 on the rising edge and 1 on the falling edge.

CPU ratio is locked. You can't change it without unlocking your processor which is a new thread all-together.

CPU core voltage and DIMM voltage should be left at default unless you're overclocking........which goes back to that whole new thread thing.

Like Maggotry said,
probably monitor problem.
It may not be "true" plug & play.
My sister had a PB monitor & I couldn't ever get
an ".inf" file for it.
Can you borrow someone else's monitor for a test?
What "refresh rate" are you trying to run?
Try a lower refresh rate.
I'm sure that video card could easily overpower
that monitor as far as refresh rate and resolution.
YMMV

Maggotry, thanks for the insight, yep I'll lay this monitor down to rest. Prior to you and Gregandtch pointing this out I suspected every component especially the vid card and MB. I'll check to set FSB at 133. So two actions per cycle= ddr. Yeah, I've read the threads on unlocking the cpus and I still don't have a "warm and fuzzy" on overclocking, as a matter of fact its being years since I felt anything thats warm and fuzzy

All that power is screaming out for a good 19" monitor. You can get them at a good price. I saw KDS 19" for $167 today. Not the best, but not bad atthat price. I like CTX better, but they cost more.

Gregandtch, now I can I'm glad its not my vid car, tried to install a visiontek ddr g force but couldn't get the supplied cd to provide the driver, (I suspect a bad cd) so I ended up with the ati the g force sure looked beefier. Yes, I can get another monitor to try but it'll probably be till the weekend. How do I find what refresh rate I'm running at and how do I know what setting is the best? I messed with the resolution once before and got icons and lettering so small that I could n't "double click" on the icons. All knowledge is greatly appreciated and therefore thank you and Maggotry for the enlightenment.

LOL! And at the same time, how sad!

Can't help you there, but there's lots of folks here willing to help with your pc problems. Tripleshot is right about the monitor. You can find absolute steals on 19" monitors if you look around a bit.

DDR = Double Data Rate (twice the data for the same clock speed)

Triplesho, I guess all that screaming was falling on deaf ears...... Do you prefer kds over samsung? Is CTX the better of all three? Thanks and gracias maggotry

<< How do I find what refresh rate I'm running at and how do I know what setting is the best? >>

Right click on desktop > Properties > Settings > Advanced

Once there, you should see a Monitor tab. This is where you'll find your refresh rate. There will be a drop-down menu where you can change the setting. Most monitors will have a manufacturers recommended setting for resolution and refresh. You don't necessarily have to use it, but it's a good starting point and I wouldn't recommend stressing the monitor past the recommended setting.

Edit: BTW, for someone named "hater", you seem like a nice guy!

Welcome to AnandTech, hater!

It certainly sounds like Maggotry's pegged it to me, and a new 17" or 19" monitor would make a world of difference to you. Don't put that ATI radeon down, I'm running one and it's a great card, yes it's not top of the line, but beats anything in it's class. (Not that I wouldn't switch to a newer radeon or geforce if offered one )
