Do you live in Manhattan?

no, central PA.

You make $33k as a sys admin (accurate or not, that seems to be your title) in Central, PA and can't find anything else? I know the commute would suck, but you have a couple of options: Drive to Baltimore everyday or drive to Philly everyday.

You do have other options, of course, but your pay seems pretty low. For your job description, if you were working through a contracting firm (Tek Systems, Comsys, etc) I think you would make several thousand more.

You should be able to do better than you are wit hthat skillset, even w/o a degree. I don't have a degree and have been in the field for over 10 years. When I started getting into tech work, I was making in the low 30s. Update your resume and get it to some head hunters and contract companies. You may lose the benefits, but you will gain a salary you can easily live on AND get your foot in the door to a contract-to-perm job. Good luck!

i don't even feel confident doing what i do now and i've forgotten most of what i learned at computertraining.com because i haven't used it.

Depending where you live, 33k is damn good money with no degree! You could easily get a place, furniture, and a car, and still have money left over every month if you lived in say the Midwest. California or the like, on the other hand...

go on monster.com or any one of those jobs sites and search for IT jobs in the harrisburg area. its all either Unix or DB admins or programming. None of which i have relevant experience or training in. I know a little html and i used to know very little C++ about 8-9 years ago. and if you do have the training, you will need 5+ years experience also.

i'm not driving several hours (one way) to work. I drove 1 hour (one way) to work every day for 4 years and that was bad enough.

i already priced out what it would cost me for an apartment + all of the bills i have now (which would also most likely add another 2-3 bills on top of that). i would have very little money left over each month for necessities(sp?) like food, gas money, etc.
