Hey, anyone else having a problem w/ svchost on their computer taking up a ton of memory and almost 100% of their processor power?

My comp.

Inel 2.26
Gigabyte GA-8IEX
512 Mb Mushkin Memory
Radeon 8500 128 Mb

If you want to find out what Services are eating the memory up,

WINXP
Goto Start\Run type:command

Tasklist /SVC

to get even more info type:

Tasklist /FI "PID eq" (with the quotes)


WIN2K
Goto Start\Run type: cmd

tlist -s

for more info type:

tlist pid

ok, I ran the command Tasklist /svc and found that the svchost that is taking up the cpu and memory on my computer is running the following programs:

Audiosrv
Browser
Cryptsvc
Dhcp
lanmanserver
lanmanworkstation
messenger
netman
Nla
Schedule
Seclogon
SENS
TrkWks
uploadmgr
W32Time
winmgmt
WmdmPmSp
Wuauserv
WZCSVC

Any thought as to which on of these is sucking up my system resources and what I can do about it? Thanks.

I would think that messenger would be the prime culprit.

Do you know what Wuauserv is tied to?
Are you running a FServe or FTP?

no, Im not running a ftp server. And according to microsoft the "messanger" referance has nothing to do w/ microsoft messanger

Are you using Wingate?
