The UL# on the first and last unit indicates Topower as the OEM.
The semi-fanless unit is interesting. I'd like to see it with the hood up.
There are better units out there for the same money.
Enhance or the Silverstone Element series come to mind.
Buy.com has the Corsair HX520 for $88 at Google check out.
It's twice as good as any Topower. IMHO

The reason i was looking at Scythe is beacuse it is:
+3.3V@28A,+5V@37A,+12V1@20A,+12V2@20A,-12V@1A,-5V@0.8A,+5VSB@2.5A
on the 12vt. And runs 58.00

A SILVERSTONE Strider SST-ST40F ATX 400W Power Supply has 12 vt rails of +12V1@14A, +12V2@15A and is 70.00
The ELement is approx 100.00 with dual 12 vts at 18 A

I dont need more than a GOOD 400 watt. And lowest price for 'good" is always better. I know you cant go cheap and have a good psu. Just trying to find the "most for least"

Is topower a japenese company? was under impression Sycthe was Japan built. Topower site says they have Taiwan headquarters?

If ya care to, check out this review

Well I picked up the 450 based on reviews on NewEgg.......right now I can't even boot my new system. It just powers up, then down, then up, then down, over and over. So it's either a DOA mobo, or something is up with the PSU. Gonna call NewEgg on Monday for a return.

The Silverstone 400W Element has 30A of 12V combined, the 500W has 36A combined.
The only PSU made in Taiwan is Zippy/Emacs. I run two here
No PSUs, to my knowledge, are built in Nippon. The better PSUs are populated with Japanese capacitors however.
All the other PSUs are built in mainland China or PRC. Whatever flotes your boat

The Corsair I spoke of above it a super good unit, populated with Jap caps It IS a good deal at $88.
http://www.ewiz.com/ has the Enhance ENP-5140GH for < $60. This is the 400 Watt Element as Enhance builds for Silverstone.

Most PSU threads become a basic tutorial for the OP. Read some of the text in the links page here. http://www.jonnyguru.com/
Much will be explained if the time is taken to read

Yes, i read a lot, maybe to much, because thedre seems to be 2 sides to a PSu story, the dual rail debate, wattage debate, and then quality of specific models.
For me its like this, money is a object right now, fixed income, almost more going out than coming in. If it wasnt, id just buy a PC power and be done with it.

JIMBOFOXMAN ??
which one did you buy? the Scythe or one mentioned by someone in this thread?, i cannot tell.. Either way, would like to know if it was a bad PSU and brand when you find out.

Yankee? yes i am looking at the links you posted, so dont think i am not considering your advice either.

List you full system spec because you may just need a good 360W unit for < $30.
I know where there is a good used 400W Element for $40 shipped but you will have to jump on it NOW.
We need system spec because some of the older rigs are 5V dependent, the newer ones lean on the 12V more.

I am using a Athlon 64 3400 Venice (stock speed/stock cooler)
Abit AN8 mothboard
1-ddr400/512 1-ddr333/256
1 maxtor HD (IDE)
1 dvd player
1 dvd recorder
Ati 1800 XL (stock speed/stock cooler)
on board sound
2 80 mm fans
2 120 mm fans
XP pro SP2
Dell 21" CRT
only 'planned' upgrades may be different cpu cooler with larger fan,and gig of dual channel, but later on..

I had a Antec SP 400 in it till it died, ran ok whole time, about 4 years, but only had the Antec on these componets about 2 weeks.

I do need a 24 pin/1-PCI E/1 4 pin mb connector

I looked at that Enhance ENP-5140GH 400W doesnt look bad, 80% and active PFC as well.
A bit confused, J Guru specs says it has 1x 8 Pin CPU-VR Power Connector
my motherboard has a 4 pin connector beside the CPu. Is this a problem? oh, and thanks for the help too

Oh, forgot to add about price, 60 to 70.00 including shipping would be best.

Your motherboard takes a 4 pin ATX, that means the 5140 would do well. Some older boards feed 5V to the CPU, but your's feeds the CPU off the 12V.
Look at that review again, note the ass-to-risk in the cable specs, the 8 pin splits to be 2x4 pin ATX.
eWiz.com has it for about <$65 shipped. Check price direct because sometimes shipping is free. Then price it via Froogle becuse it will be a bit cheaper but w/o free shipping..

You don't need a big PSU at all to run that.

The 400 watt Enhance would be a good choice. As would a 330 or 380 watt Seasonic S12, you will pay a little more per watt but you'll be getting a little bit better build quality.

I just knew you'd enter this thread pushing the little Seasonics
For that matter, eWiz has several 360W Enhance units for < $30. They do have 80mm
fans and the noise will turn one into a serial killer, or so think the guys of SPCR

You know me all to well.

I feel obligated to offset the mindless 700 watt suggestions regardless of what the system will draw.

i see what you are saying about the 4/8 pin now. And i know i dont need a power house PSU. But i do believe i wouldnt want to go less than a decent 400 watter.500 if i could catch a great deal on one or something.
Either way, more one reads more one finds out, and have been doing a lot of that.Including here. And it all has helped to dispell some myths.

Oh, by the way, did any of ya ever see a psu go out this way? my ANtec 400... computer began every now and then to restart after shtdown, everything went off, all lights fans , etc for least 3-4 seconds, then would restart.Happened maybe one time out of 20 shutdowns.
I thought windows, checked everything, web searched for similar problems, checked all hardware, bios, EVERYTHING!.
Then it started doing it more like 10 out of 20 times over about a week. Next week, everytime...
Was baffled. I stuck in a old ATX Dell Psu of 215 watts, 18 A one single 12 vt rail. No more problems. I thought then maybe a loose wire or something, checked all plugs carefully, Antec back in, restarts evrytime, Dell back in, fine again...Antec, reboot, Dell, fine.
So i didnt want to take a chance on the Antec screwing up and ruining something and left it out. I even opened it up and checked all wires with a Ohm meter from pcb to ends, couldnt find anything wrong there. SO must be its inner guts going bad.
I just have never saw a psu going out, that wanted the computer to stay on! LOL
Ok, well... pretty sure now what to buy, thanks to all who helped !
