I bought a Seagate 200GB 7200.7 @ Compusa on Monday since they had a big rebate. It won't work in my Bytecc 740 usb/firewire enclosure. The enclosure works with an ancient maxtor, so it's not broke. The enclosure is supposed to handle up to 300GB. Also, I read a review (aug 2004) where somebody managed to get it to work with a Seagate 200GB.
The first HDD I bought made a weird ta-ta-ta nosie. I went to compusa and exchanged it. But the second HDD makes the same noise and basically won't work. The drive starts spinning ok then 10 seconds later starts making the strange noise. Of course, it's not recognized by the computer.
Has anybody had problems with Seagate 200GB IDE drives purchased recently? Can this be a "bad batch"?
My computer is set up with SATA; I don't want to mess it up right now trying the IDE drive (later). For now I'm checking if anybody has had problems with these drives.
Thanks
