seagate hard drive with K7S5A pro

I'm putting together a new system and my 80gb seagate is making this high pitch noise. I took it out and plugged it into my other system and it was quiet. Could it be an incompatibility issue with my motherboard (ECS K7S5A pro)? That sounds unlikely. However, I put in a maxtor hard drive which doesn't make the noise; but can't seem to get win xp to boot. I did a fresh install. Everything seems to be going well during installation but at the final reboot the computer hangs. Is this a motherboard problem? Anyone know?

your sea gate has probly just got some whiny bearings, i'd back it up if possible, and run a disk utility.

check the jumper settings on the maxtor. cable select is usually best.

Don't you have to have a certain type of cable in order for CS to work?

Could be an issue with the power supply. Or the particular HD power connection you were using (if it was split or a bad cable). Try a different PS in that system and/or the other HD power connectors.
