MY sister is a teacher and she also sends around all the dumb answers to a bunch of her friends/relatives. She is teaching AP english right now and by some of the answers she gets you wonder how these people even made it to high school. Their reading/writting really is at a elementry school level (she teaches at a poor/crappy school btw, so it really is true some of these people would have trouble reading kids books, the great works of fiction are jsut completely beyond them). Also, the amount of kids in poor schools who are on drugs, have STDs, or have kids is just absurd, every semester she has someone drop out because they got pregnant, and others are drinking or smoking marajuna all the time and basically think its a horrible crime that the government requires you to go to school. Going to the local community college is a huge accomplishment, and making it into a real state school means you are the creem of the crop. Of course most don't go to any college and end up being dirt poor the rest of their lives just like their parents before them.

This is a great thread!

I worked in my dad's medical office (he's the head partner) over the summer and there was really nothing stopping me from retrieving as much personal information as I wanted (including SSNs). I didn't of course.

If you're nice to some workers at comic book stores and get to be friends with them, they'll give you the maximum discount they usually only give to customers who buy 30 comics a month

Sometimes if you just ask for a discount at the service department of a dealership, they'll go ahead and give you one.

The item that sets off the metal detectors in the library is a metal strip that is stuck between two arbitrary pages near the spine of the book.

When i worked at best buy as a tech.......

We had an amateur porn collection of customers, funny, gruesome, impressive, weird, you name it. people had it and we collected it.

We routinely fried hardware before we shipped it off to be serviced (depending on the malfunction of course), otherwise the service center would just ship it back to us unrepaired claiming it worked fine, or was misused/abused by the customer in order to meet turn times.

We had a master mp3 collection of everything we got off of customers machines and whatever employees brought in to contribute.

They can terminate your service plan at any time, for any reason. You can also choose to end it at any time and have the remainder pro-rated to you.

They can't offer you a discount on any service plan, but they can fudge with the price of most any item if you make it worth their while. How's this important? Buy EVERYTHING they suggest, titanium coated cables, warranties, extra ink, you name it. But only agree to everything else if they give you a discount on the main item you want. Make sure they apply the discount to that item during checkout. Return everything else you don't want another day. (works great on tv's, pc/laptops, appliances, home theater, etc..)

I used to hide my buddy behind a bank of monitors until his shift started so he could sleep off the alcohol from the night before...hehe.

Ouro PCI-E core doesn't advertise L1 support at boot, so OEMs need to requery the ASPM abilties at some later time if they want L1 support to work properly.

Chemical engineers are supposed to know everything that all of the other engineering disciplines know, but we're never actually taught any of it.

FYI...Lasik does not correct for presbyopia (the need for bifocals or reading glasses) when you're in your 40's. You still will need reading glasses even if you get Lasik. There are new lens implants that can correct for presbyopia, but that's different from Lasik.

My wife is a high school english teacher. Needless to say, we've had a few good laughs.

Why?

that just means dealers can make more off of you. unless you come in pre-approved.

When a hotel (especially a cheaper one) claims they don't have rooms, they are probably lying. If the hotel fills up at 5pm, they will keep 5% of the rooms available, and slowly sell them between then and midnight. If you are nice enough, they might sell one to you. Again, the key is being nice.

If your account is on credit hold, and I've told you no 5 times, having your mom call up to beg will not help. Matter of fact, I think it will make it worse. Especially if you are in your 40's and run your own business.

now for my secrets from my old jobs (maybe this is common knowledge):
- mortgage brokers are liars. They will try to put you into the most expensive loan that will give them highest rebate. What? your income is only xxx a month? No problem, it is now three times that. Enjoy your new house! Dont forget to call me again when you HAVE to refinance your house in a year or so (of course they dont tell you this last part).
- mortgage lenders only care that you make your first couple of months (usually 3 months) of payments. Because if you do they are not responsible for that loan anymore.
- Some people that do 100% financing (usually split 80% first, 20% second) are savvy enough that they know they know they only need to pay the first mortgage, since there is really no value on the second mortgage to warrant any action from the mortgage lender. Yes it will ding their credit but good credit people don't do 100% financing in the first place.
but wont there be fees and penalties that keep piling up on the 20% loan?

whats the point of not paying the 20% loan?

We have been know to play a game of "Hammer toss" or two in the warehouse. New TVs (in boxes) are typically used to line the lanes.

Your store sucks 'cuz the store I worked at a couple years ago called the people who did know about products to check them, and security did check cart contents. I can't wait for someone to come posting back saying "they fvcking caught me!!!oneoneone" LOL

At Best Buy, our Customer Service has us check a lot of things for them before they honor the return.. especially on computer products and other high-tech stuff.

Actually I know of two people, one iPod and one Powerbook user that got around that.

Both were dented...however the denting was non-eventful.

I also know of one iPod user that got a submerged one replaced free. Depends on how much Apple you own I guess

Man I loved the Apple ][ and then my //e that arrived on christmas in 83 with the DMP printer, Kensington System Saver, 80 column card, Apple Green Phosphor monitor with tilt screen, Kraft CH deluxe joystick, 2 Disk ][s, Grappler+ card, and a 300 baud modem...was over $3k...1MHz and 143k disk drives and at best a harddrive of a few MB's.

Three years later: 2 more Disk ]['s (I wanted the AE or whatever quad density ones at the time), Enhanced chipset, 1200 and later Applied Engineering's 2400 baud modem, Sonic SuperSequencer MIDI setup running through my brother's Kawai K1 and a Casio CZ-101.

You post online about committing a crime... smooth.

Beats posting online about not having a sense of humor.

give him a couple more years...he will catch on. As long as he doesn't find the people I buried in my backyard it's cool with me.
