Princejoe, Soul Calibur is a Must Have if you're into fighting games. I'm not a violent person in real life, but that game is like virtual crack! You Cannot. Stop. Playing. It. The graphics are stunning and the gameplay is amazing. Best $20 you'll ever spend, trust me. As for the other games you listed, I haven't played them enough to comment-- except for Sonic-- and that's a lot of fun. I haven't met anybody who didn't like that one.

If I were you, I'd get the Sports Pack-- that's a decent deal and even if you don't end up liking the games, you could always sell or trade them. Plus, the black console looks cool as sh*t; while the grey one is so plain and ugly, you'll want to hide it under your bed when your friends come over. I got in on the deal with the Smash Pack a couple of weeks ago cause I needed a spare DC for my bedroom, but I can't really recommend the Smash Pack. It's alright, but not worth the extra money. The graphics are so old and cheesy, I can't even stand to play the games (and this is coming from a person who likes old, cheesy games! Whoever mentioned Donkey Kong and Pac Man was singing my song-- I'd much rather have had those games instead).

Sega Swirl is okay, but don't waste your money on it cause it's included on the web browser cd that comes with your DC anyway. To me, it's not as fun as (original) Tertris or even Amazing Blocks (pc game).

Other Must Haves besides Soul Calibur were already mentioned: Virtua Tennis, Crazy Taxi, Jet Grind Radio, PSO, Tony Hawks 2, NBA2K1, and Shenmue. I'd also pick up Samba di Amigo if I could find a good deal on the maracas.

Only one person mentioned how great the graphics are with a VGA adapter. If you have a spare monitor or one with dual inputs (ala my Samsung 900NF) you owe it to yourself to get the adapter. It's truly a huge difference compared to playing on a TV. Unfortunately, the VGA adapters are pretty hard to come by it seems. Make sure the place you order them from has them in stock.

I'm in full agreement with the comments above about Jet Grind Radio. I don't get hooked on games very often, and even when I do I rarely play them through completely. This is one game that I couldn't stop playing. It just oozes with style and playability from every angle. Now that I've finished it, I've moved on to Tony Hawk 2, which is another must-have game. Be sure to pick both of these games up.

I hope I am the only one having trouble with twec! I ordered on Tuesday of this week and they still have not shipped it. It still says "in process". There is no number to call them (very fustrating) all you can do is send them an email. Is anyone else having trouble???

You guys mentioned $20 games? Where can I get Shenmue, Soul Calibur, etc - for $20? Walmart had them cheaply a few weeks back, but that deal seems to be dead..

Got my DC from TWEC today via UPS
(You can track the order by looking at the tracking #.. usually 1Z#####etc) and tell when its coming (goto www.ups.com)

Anyway.. it comes with all the goodies..

1 Beige Dc unit..
1 controller
1 25 ft telephone wire (for modem)
1 ac cord
1 demo cd with 5-6 demo games on it
1 web browser cd (2.0)
1 A/V cable (composite)
1 set of instructions..etc

And the good news is THIS unit IS 'back-up game' compatible..
sweet!
I just need to get used to driving etc with that stick controller..
(I am used to the directional keys)

thanks for the feedbacks, guys.. 50ftqueenie, since u bought the smash pack, did u play the game street of rage? is it any good? I've heard of the game soul calibur, u said it's the best $20 u could ever spent, but where can u get it for such a lower price? Also, have u heard of the game dead or alive 1 or 2? I heard it's a good fighting game as well. So according to what u guys said so far, the smash pack is not worth buying, I guess.... by the way, can I use dreamcast to watch VCD on TV? I doubt it........... I tried to order it from twec.com, but it's out of stock already, not sure if they will get more.. When does the coupon expire anwyay?

Backup games are game images burned to cd-rws from internet downloads. If you own the game, it's okay to back it up this way... however, many people don't own the original games and yet download and burn 'backups'. This is the equivilent to pirating in the PC gaming industry (it's illegal)...

Hey 'PrinceJoe' - See that little button to the right labeled [Caps Lock] - Tap it! Isn't that amazing? You can talk in small letters now! hehe

I'm pretty sure that all systems support 'backup' games. Of course you never know when Sega might come out with a new 'feature' for their latest consoles. Bought a system recently that works great with the few backups I tested...

Not sure about that VCD thing, but I forgot to mention before - the DC Tennis game named Virtua Tennis, is supposed to be very good! Check out the reviews online...

I agree with 50ftqueenie. Soul Calibur is a must-have for DC. The graphics and sound are just amazing. Controls are smooth too. Heck, the game alone is worth the money on the whole system.
HappyFace, Target had Shenmue, Jet Grind Radio, NBA 2K1, Quake III Arena and a few other games on sale for $19.99 each a while ago. Other games (not advertised) including Power Stone 2, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Sega Marine Fishing, Sega GT, and D2 were also $19.99 each, and they were probably regular prices.

I like Virtua Tennis. It's a fun game for 1-4 players. I got it at Circuit City for $29.99, though recently I saw it somewhere on sale for $19.99.

Shenmue isn't really a RPG. It does have a story, but the gameplay very unique, as it integrates fighting - puzzle solving - etc... a very fun game, with awesome graphics!

princejoe...Get Virtua Tennis. It's the best tennis game there is! You can find it at Fry's for $19.99. Dead or Alive 2 is a fighting game and it's pretty good. I have the PS2 version and I've seen the DC version side by side, I'd say there's not much difference other than the extra hidden levels in the PS2 (like the Dragon Chamber, which is way cool in graphics).

auyong, thanks for information. it seems like there are many dreamcast games being made for PS2, is it a better idea to get the PS2 instead of the dreamcast? auyong, since u have both systems, what do u think of the dreamcast's graphics? how is it compare to PS2?

princejoe...my opinion is if you are really into games, you would probably want every system that is available. The graphics of DC is not inferior to the PS2, maybe just a little but it has a lot of fun games. So far, the PS2 has some good games, the best being SSX(snowboarding by EASports BIG), but other than that, the fun value of the PS2 games are not as high as the DC. There's also the issue of cost. PS2 games retail for $50 + tax. If you have a DC, the games are going to be cheaper as the system is discontinued...so if you do not mind having less 'secret levels', you might as well get the DC.

The strength of the PS2 lies in the DVD capability and its backward compability with PS games. If you have PS games, you can play almost all the games on PS2. With a DVD ROM game, the software maker can cram a lot more graphics and lengthen the storyline, especially for RPG games(I have Summoner and it took me over a month to finish it, great graphics and long but good storyline).

There are also no shooting game for the PS2(therefore no guns yet), unlike the Dreamcast, which has House of the Dead 1 and 2 and also Virtua Cop 2. These are great games. You can get a light blaster with the House of the Dead 2 game at Fry's for $39.99. That's another hot deal.

For online games, we have to wait for PS2's broadband modem, so online gameplay now is not available, meanwhile the DC is already coming out the the broadband adapter for $60 so that you can play games using cable or dsl connection. So, I think that the DC is definitely a great buy even if the PS2 seems superior. And at $83, it is one of the hottest deals around right now.

one more thing to consider. You can definitely play backup games on the DC. For PS2, you probably have to wait for the mod chip and pay someone to install it for you because it needs soldering.
