Or…maybe…put that money towards hiring more judges and staff to properly process legal asylum claims, expedite the claims for those who cannot return to their country of origin (war, famine, gang targets etc.) and offer some incentive (preferred processing, faster work permits) to those who are able to wait it out in a friendly 3rd country.

The university where my gf is getting her PhD from lost 13 students from their visa's being revoked by Trump. My cousin at easter who is a highly successful orthopedic surgeon and researcher, a school by him lost seven students. He knows two people who rely solely on grants to do their research, and they will most likely lose their jobs. He came here from overseas to study for his bachelors, and then stayed to become a surgeon. International students are going to simply avoid coming here. THe talent loss, and financial losses, are going to be immense.

I think I read foreign students contribute 44 billion dollars to the economy yearly.
