Sempron or Celeron?

I would and will never buy Celeron anything. Even if the new ones do perform alot better than the williamette versions. To me, Intel ripped a ton of people off with those highly underperforming williamette celeron cpu's. My grandfather is one and his 1700+ desktop is faster to him than his 2.2ghz Celeron. There was absolutely no valid excuse for Intel to make those cpu's so slow. That my opinion and rant

Rule 1. Give the customer what he/she wants... (Intel inside or AMD upside Intels head)
Rule 2. Maximize your profits under rule 1... Greed is good... go to church and make contribution... contrary to some opinions, you won't go to hell for selling Intel... purgatory maybe.
Rule 3. See what motherboards and features are available within rules 1 & 2
Ultimately, in this usage class it doesn't matter-- AXP, Celeron D or Sempron.

The Tulatin core celerons back in the day were nice though, prior to the release of the Willamette core Celies. Basicly a P3, ripe for a nice over clock. Probably the only truly good Celeron ever made.

Ive played with some Celeron D's and they are def not bad for the price.
Serious oc'ers, not to mention the infamous J stepping.

Dude, he meant why do they CAPITALIZE it, not Capitalize it. INTEL vs. Intel.

So, I know this is an old thread and all, but I have the same question, more or less, but need some more specific guidance (cause ya'll are all over the place).

I'm looking at building a (cheeeeaaaaap) NAS/media server, but one that can run Itunes and Tivo Desktop, so its gotta run Windows. (very very stripped down).

I'm looking at the sub-$70 market for CPUs. Pretty much either a Northwood Celeron 2.0Ghz or a Thoroughbred Sempron 2500+. Not interested in the Celeron D, too hot. Both $67 at Newegg.

Performance doesn't matter much (because this is a glorified file server). But low-power, low-temperature are a must. And I just don't know enough about these to say which is better in that regard.

So, which one?

Actuly it was originaly an acronym, it stood for Intagrated Electronics
