I didn't measure it but it is specified to fit on any socket A board whereas many aftermarket coolers aren't. As far as applying the AS Ceramique, it would certainly help reduce temps, I can't deny that. Actually, only recently have I not done so myself. When I started building boxes professionally I began to use the retail coolers with the stock TIM pad to preserve the warranty that AMD provides. I noticed on socket A systems that the stock cooling is quite efficient and quiet as well. When I built my new socket 754 system I decided to give the retail cooling a chance again. I was not let down.
But I will be redoing my box again within a month and at that time I'll be applying AS Ceramique as well. It is my favorite thermal compound.
