Hi,

Is the cooler that comes w/ Sempron 2400+ BOX processor good? Do you know where can I see pictures of it?

Can I run the CPU @ 200MHz BUS (2GHz) w/ this stock AMD cooler?

Thank You!

My guess is that you're going to run awfully hot with the stock cooler. I had a stock AMD cooler on my Barton 2500 and it failed on me...though I also have one on a 1700 Thunderbird that I'm overclocking the snot out of and it works fine (but it runs really warm). You can give it a try, but don't be surprised if you end up needing a better one.

Recently I did a budget build for my brother-in-law and I installed a Sempron 2400+ on a Biostar M7NCG-400 uATX mobo and I used the stock cooler with the stock TIM pad. It ran very quietly (like my far more expensive Alpha PAL/Vantec Stealth) with an idle temp. of about 42C on average. After 12 hours of Prime95 blended test the temp. was hovering around 50C. That's definitely very adequate cooling and unless you are going for insane overclocks with high Vcore settings it is plenty good enough for heavy usage (gaming, etc). Basically, if the cpu an run at 200MHz at stock Vcore (or even a few bumps up) then the stock cooler ought to be sufficient for you.

Thank You for all replies. . .

Megatomic, what´s the size of the heatsink and FAN? Do you recommend removing the stock TIM and applying some Arctic Ceramique?

I didn't measure it but it is specified to fit on any socket A board whereas many aftermarket coolers aren't. As far as applying the AS Ceramique, it would certainly help reduce temps, I can't deny that. Actually, only recently have I not done so myself. When I started building boxes professionally I began to use the retail coolers with the stock TIM pad to preserve the warranty that AMD provides. I noticed on socket A systems that the stock cooling is quite efficient and quiet as well. When I built my new socket 754 system I decided to give the retail cooling a chance again. I was not let down.

But I will be redoing my box again within a month and at that time I'll be applying AS Ceramique as well. It is my favorite thermal compound.

Was it gray? That's what color the TIM pad has been on all the retail AMD coolers I've received.
