Hey guys, I was doing a search for free fax sending programs after my fax machine
broke. I didn't want to pay subscriptions to other online services so I stumbled across this:

http://eztel.com/freefax/

I don't really know much about it, other than what it says on the page. It appears to be
free, no signups or anything... Is this "hot" (i know its not the most exciting thing in the world, but..)? Be, nice, this is my first post. I found this site and just wanted to share the
wealth, =).

if you have windows you have a built in fax machine. if you want a free incoming only fax that you even get a separate phone number with, go to eFax.com

They want your CC # when signed up. It is not free.

there is a program that isn't supported or being developed anymore that works with tcp.int that allows one to use attachments and stuff ... its on the tpc.int website

i found it a lot easier just to copy and paste into their web form though

If you have windows and a MODEM, you have a built in fax machine, but you still have to PAY for the phone call.

Not everyone needs a MODEM these days. I haven't used one in years.

I use Fax1.com. They take almost any kind of document attachment. There are several ways to fax: via a print driver (you select your fax1.com "printer" vs. a real printer and the fax is sent over the net), the web, or email.

Pennies per page, no matter where the phone call goes. This saves money just on long distance charges alone.

They send you an email to tell you if the fax was successful, as well as a popup message after faxing. You can get more details about the transmission by accessing your account.

I'm very happy with them, and the couple of times I've had issues, their support was excellent; even crediting my account a couple of bucks for my problems. Highly recommended.

My wife uses this to fax out resumes all the time now, as she's looking for a new job. Couldn't be more pleased.

There's a free trial, I think, so it wouldn't even cost you anything to check it out.

If you look at their site, you'll see that there are several ways to fax, as mentioned above. I use the "Faxblaster" method that "prints to fax".

Just my 2 cents...

This is hot for people with VOIP that isn't compatible with fax machines yet. Quite a few companies are still not fax-compatible.

you only have to pay for a phone call if it's long distance, and that can't cost much, i pay 4 cents a minute for my long distance, and a fax only takes 2-3 minutes. and a modem today, which are usually in all computers, costs about $5 if you have to buy one. any other problems?

i admit that you have to really look and read carefully on the site, but there is a free system with NO credit card required, just don't expect it to find you, you have to find it.

you'll also be getting a phone number that is NOT in your area code, so people who fax you from your area code will have to spend 10 cents like the rest of the world. then the fax gets emailed to you. what do you want for free and not having to tie up your phone?

TRY HERE AND LOOK AT THE THIRD OPTION

FREE AFTER REBATE EXTERNAL MODEM

[REBATE FORM

ORDER MODEM

I've gotten these before because they gave a rebate greater than the cost of the modem, but I couldn't find anyone who wanted it, so I threw it away.

thanks to allisolm

I picked one of these up this afternoon. Makes for a great fax, particularly if pci slots are at a premium.

Slikkster, I checked out the tpc.int clients page and found a utility that looks like it does basically the same thing you're doing for free.

You enter your info and then it creates a printer driver. When you print your document, select that printer driver and it will fax the document.

Check it out

Forget the modem - not all of us have phone lines! Cheapest Verizon plan: $19/mo for by-the-minute service (after all taxes and fees) NOT A HOT DEAL so I just use a cell phone. Seems like every fax service out there requires monthly service just to send a fax and Kinkos charges way too much.

Does it work through your phone line, or does it work over the internet?

Not being able to FAX was the one big drawback for VOIP. I still like the price and features of VOIP, but I don't like the fact you can't fax, and you are also much more vulnerable to losing your telephone when power goes out. What I do like about VOIP is the possibility of bringing my VOIP adapter to another country, connecting to the internet and being able to recieve and call other people as if I was at home.

Ditto. I like the pennies-per-page fax services that don't require monthly fees.

Dude it still needs a server to send it to, there's no point in downloading a free client if you don't have a server.

I've also been using Fax1.com for quite a while now. Their free trial worked as it should, so I ended up putting $10 in when it ran out and I wanted to send a fax.

The only problem was that they didn't process the payment instantly. So I called them up, and a very nice gentleman with a Texas accent just went ahead and credited my account $10 instantly. So at any rate they're a legit company.

I use eFax.com for incoming faxes and fax out with Fax1 so it ends up being crazily cheap for faxing

I just posted earlier about how I used this service already. I actually was bold/apathetic enough to send a resume and a cover letter using this service. Artist99, this goes through the internet, not a phone line. As I said ealier though, when you fill out the fax, you give your email, and you're supposed to recieve a confirmation that it was delivered. I have not recieved the confirmation. So I don't know if it got through, unless I get a call for the job(haha, but it won't happen because the format of my resume got screwed up and I just hit send anyways, this was no big deal, this time).

The best way to see if this works is sending a fax to someone I know personally and then see if they recieved it or not. This I have yet to do.
