You want TWO routers, one, the "outer" router, would be connected to the ISP, and then to YOU.
The "inner" router, would be connected with it's WAN port connected to a LAN port of the "outer" router. That router would be for your Landlord.
Advantage? His PC is protected from yours, because, behind his router, your PC looks like it's just another PC on the internet.
Disadvantage? Double-NAT. If he does certain things on his connection, then double-NAT maybe "break" those things.

Another possibility, would be for you to get your own VPN that you pay for, and torrent using that (recommended), and then put the VPN client into a router, and connect that router's WAN port to the LAN port of your Landlord's ISP router, and thus, anything you do, will be connected over the VPN.
