SERVER 2008 Free for students

I've pretty much made this my permanent OS. Not only does it work well with my circuit simulation software and MATLAB, it also plays games and does all the other things I want it to do.

It's open source and I used it in the past on Linux. It doesn't have a real-time scanner but you can right-click and scan anything you download and it has updates and stuff.

well I finally installed mine yesterday and after configuring it how I want and switching back and forth between it and Vista quite a bit Server 08 is definitely much faster for the everyday type tasks I use my pc for. Now I just have to setup some games on it and see if they run smoothly. Even if they run the same as on Vista I might consider switching to this full time just because I like how snappy it feels.

Hm... cool. I'm downloading the ISO now. I was actually going to format my computer recently because it's kind of messed up and needs some serious repartitioning for Ubuntu 8.10 and XP SP3. My questions: Is Server 2008 a better choice than SP3? Is there any good, free antivirus for Server 2008? and finally, how is the laptop power management?

Edit:
I'll probably just stick with XP SP3, since I'm mainly using Ubuntu anyway. It will be nice to have the ISO and key though, in case I build a desktop and want a Windows OS for it (though, I'd probably stick to Ubuntu as well in that case).

Why do people seek antivirus? It only slows down the operating system and never really helps anyway. Server 2008 comes with Windows Defender. Pretty much every application that works under Vista will work on Server 2008 unless you're using Hyper V or something. I haven't booted into my XP partition for weeks because this thing plays pretty much all of my games and does anything I need it to do.

Windows Defender is only AntiSpyware isn't it? That being said when I do have an AV installed I only use it for manual scans. I haven't had an actual virus since just after I first started using computers years go.

i tihnk i made i mistake in installation. i picked enterprise rather than standard.
anyone know how i can fix this without a re-install ?
cuz the key i get is not working and the page says the key is for professional

There should be a generate key box at the very bottom of the download page at DreamSpark.

He/She probably downloaded the iso, but it's pretty much useless without the key.

If the link seems to be dead for you try really late at night. I think it gets overloaded during the day.

Just tried the link and it works, downloading server 2008 under my wife right now who, thankfully, is still a student. Not that I need another copy of an OS since I have a copy of Home Server and Vista Business just sitting around but it never hurts to be prepared.
