I can't believe that there are 5 pages of posts and there still hasn't been a single substantial post on the merits of the case.

Here is an excerpt from the patent:

"People have used floating point before, just in emulation because hardware cost too much. Now that hardware is cheap, we just do floating point rasterization from the framebuffer instead of through emulation."

So basically, SGI was the first to implement an idea someone else thought of and somehow they can get a patent for that? I can see that they could get a patent for a particular implementation (it should be a copyright if the law made sense it doesn't) but how can they patent and idea that was someone elses? So long as ATI didn't copy their circuitry, the idea of a floating point framebuffer should be free. And also, a floating point framebuffer is such a friggen obvious idea that it shouldn't even be patentable.

So, are you another 'potential recruit' that didn't sign up (the other public one is Pete) or do you have two accounts here? Why wait until now for your revelation? and how about posting up the nda?

it's hardly a revelation; not like i just realized something.

and it's not the first time i've stated it.

the point being we weren't recruited by 'friends', and AEG members did get info from nvidia (even if it was people that were more PR than anything, who were simply "middlemen" for the info).

iirc the gentleman's name from AEG was named Ted Brockwood, and his initial contact to those he recruited were from, among other things, various forums. not sure what profiles he was looking for, other than those that were 'enthusiasts' and had good knowledge of hardware. but that's really neither here nor there, as my point is you're making conclusions and stating things you've basically picked up from hearsay, and they are incorrect.

you'd be silly not to, even if you didn't particularly like nvidia. unfortunately personal reasons kept me from continuing.. oh well.

but as an enthusiast, having access to the latest hardware and information, as well as perhaps being able to provide feedback to actually impact a product.. how could you NOT enjoy that? it wasn't all about viral marketying; there were several i know of who got involved and did not go out of their way to "market" nvidia.

and as a fanboy such as yourself who for whatever reason seems to be emotionally attached to nvidia (as well as apparently hating ati), there were no downsides - you could keep being a fanboy and enjoy playing with the latest, greatest stuff before everyone else. what's not to like?
