Shared IRQ 9 on Asus A7V

In win2k I get about 5 devices using irq 9, which I think is the source of many of my problems,

On IRQ 9 windows reports:
ACPI,
SB Live! Value (without emulation on),
C/Labs GTS 2,
USB Controller,
and Ata-100
which to me seems a little odd. I think this might also be why i get crackles in the sound I can't select agp 4x on the gts and I get hangs when using optimal.

I've tried setting the IRQ for the SB Live in bios to 5 manually and moving it to slot 3, but back in windows it reverts back to 9.

Any suggestions on how to get these devices on seperate IRQ's within win2k would be nice.

a7v, TBird 900(55ºc), SBLive! Value, C/Labs GTS2 using all the latest drivers and bios revision 1004a.

Including Promises ata-100 build 25 drivers.

Seems several people have that same problem. Check
out www.hardwarecentral.com, under the motherboard
section. I have the same motherboard and am having
a number of problems with it.

Good luck

I believe this is a common problem with all W2K ACPI capible boards. If you have ACPI enabled, the system hands over system resource control to W2K. You can't really do anything about it unless you disable ACPI. One way to do it is to press F5 during the W2K installation process (where you see the F6 screen on installation) and select that you don't want a ACPI PC setup.

How much will I benefit from having ACPI installed o nmy system, if I disable it will it give me the stability I want, or will it subtract from system performance ... What is ACPI anyway

ACPI is Advanced Configuration and Power Interface. If you disable it it will give you more control over your system resources. But a good thing about ACPI is the OnNow thing with W2K. For me my computer takes 15 seconds to load up where I left off if I use ACPI Hibernate OnNow fuction. I'd try disabling it first to make sure if that fixes the problem however.

If ya want more info you can always go here: http://www.teleport.com/~acpi/

There doesn't appear to be an option to disable ACPI in the bios and it doesn't allow you to disable using the windows Device Manager. So ideas here would be appreciated, but after reading a couple of those technical documents i'm not to convinced that this is the source of my problems.

So any ideas on would be appreciated:
enabling 4x agp
stopping hangs in Optimal
Preventing crackles with Sb Live! Value when Seti is running

Hitting F7 during the Win2K is the easy way to shut off ACPI. Follow the Microsoft instructions on when to hit F7 or you will miss it and install ACPI again.

What problems are you experiencing?

I have ACPI off but it does not get rid of the system lockup many of us experienced.

Setting "System Performance Setting" to Normal and "Byte Merge" to Disabled in Bios has stopped my A7V system from locking up.

There is a fix for AGP problems here:
AGP Program May Hang When Using Page Size Extension on Athalon Processor

Try these first before messing with ACPI and IRQ's.

Let us know if it helps.

Believe it or not, i've tried all the bug fixes and reg edits to stop hangs and getting my card to 4x agp. I've read a few articles about acpi, and I'm not too convinced it's that anymore, although I would like to see my devices share irqs with less than 5 others, I know the a7v is a bit short on irqs but 6 devices runing on irq 9 is bitt stupid. I know that USB and slot 4/5 are supposed to share but the others I would really like to seperate.

However I still can't get the damn 4x agp working, I can get a fully stable system in Normal, but even in Optimal although not 100% stable I still can't get 4x agp, and believe I've tried everything, nVidias reg fix, the latest Detonator, i'm downloading 6.31 beta as I write this, I've installed all the latest builds from via as well. It's really starting to bother me now. :|
