sharing wireless connection through laptop?

Hello!

I am disgusted by MS trying to charge $100 for their Xbox 360 wireless dongle, and heard mention of a way to connect the xbox to the internet through another pc.

Is it possible to plug the Xbox's ethernet cable into my laptop (which has a wireless card) or my desktop (which has a USB wireless adapter) in order to share the connection? I have a belkin G mimo router connected to a cable modem for our wireless internet.

Yes, due to where the cable comes in, the router has to be in a separate room, and I don't think my roommate would appreciate cat-5 running across the middle of the floor.

From the bit that I've read already on that site, it looks like the best option would be to create a 'network' consisting of my laptop and xbox, and then create a network bridge between that and our existing wireless home network?

And, to directly connect the xbox to the laptop, would I need a crossover cable, or can I just use the standard cable that came with the system? Also, I will have to run the 'setup network wizard', yes?

If one of the NICs involved is MDX it would work with straight.

Since you have already a cable, try it, if it does not work get a crossover.

If you've experience setting up ICS, then it shouldn't be that much different.
I had used ICS PC with Xbox 360 in the past and I ran into security problem vs NAT.
In the end, I gave up and bought a $15 logitech wireless bridge.
