The only way to settle this issue Rollo and TheSnowman is for Rollo get me a copy of these drivers...

Serioulsy, has anyone found these drivers anywhere? If you google for Forceware 78.03, all the HW forums are buzzing aboug ChrisRay's thread... but, where are these damn drivers?

see!

NVNEWS???nVIDIA?Beta???Geforce 6XXX?7XXX?????,?????????,G70???????????:?????????,????????(shimmer)???,????????
(High Quality)?????????????GeForce 6XXX??????????????

I can't even read it, but I know they're talking about shimmering and these drivers...

edit: Rollo got some props too... http://www.3dchipset.com/#473

Gsellis, I take you didn't look videos in the the thread Rollo linked to as evidence? Even the guy who made those videos is not claiming the drivers fix the shimmering anymore, but is rather referrring to the effect of the drivers as "shimmering reduction."

See post here..

So again; Rollo's statement "Shimmering issue fixed" simply isn't the case.

i would agree. much room for wild speculation though. Rollo and this guy both of them do have the connections to the N-Vee-Dee-I-A and the "special drivers" when it´s expected for public download (nvm just read somewhere 78.03 is goin to be released tomorrow)....Rollo, would ya post the changelog or look for the passage that says what changes were made to reduce the shimmering? Iam curious what they name it.

The AF does look A LOT better though. and is not nearly as distracting IMO. I think if the shimmering had only been as bad as it is in the 78.03 drivers, this whole debate might not exist. Honestly, I will have to run them on my own system to see how they "feel" overall.

Nitro, I'd give you the drivers if I could, but I promised my buddy they stay with me. Not that I don't trust you, but my word to my friend is my bond.

I would do the same for you if you trusted me with unreleased materials, like say if you were a developer for FEAR! I could test it for you!

don't care if they fixed it should have gotten it right before the release AND mad a 512mb card. traded my 7800gtx for a 850xt pe + cash. gonna get a next gen after they've been out a while.

Snowman, do you go to bed at night saying, "Please dont let Nvidia fix the shimmering, please oh please!"

Why would you not want the shimmering issue to be fixed? A lot of people on these forums paid a lot of money for those cards and they deserve the problem to be fixed.

Please stop waving your Anti-Nvidia flag.

AFAIK, I can't post charts here, so about all I could do is post a link to a hosted one?

Sorry, feel free not to read my posts if you feel the information is not presented in a usable format.

It was an issue on the R300 at release, maybe you should trade in your X850 for a V5 or something?

Well it's a good thing its fixed and doesn't decrease performance...i've seen a thread or something about this somewhere else. Generally the performance drop is minimal. a few fps at most.

30% drop? ha, whoever said that is just mad because the 7800gtx is grood (yes, grood)

Nah, your free format text skills need improvement...

OK, the format is a little rough, but not worth a frag post.

Dang, that horse you gave me has bad teeth.

I would never ask/expect you to. I totally understand your position here. My point was that NV has started a small media frenzy with these drivers that probably only a handful of us geeks care about. They could at least get leaked "by accident" by them or one of their partners. That way, we could try them out, and they wouldn't have to support them.

I have been wanting the shimmering fixed since I got my Geforce and I think I have made that pretty clear. Why are you having trouble understandin that and what in the world do you consider anti-nVidia about asking for details on these new drviers?

Excuse me if I have misinterpreted your posts, but you seem to go out of your way to discount Rollo's claim that the shimmering issue is fixed.

I guess if it were me and I wanted the issue fixed, I would take Rollo's account as being true. Then if it turned out the shimmering issue is not fixed, then you can crap all over this thread.

It just seems to me that you're being very premature. Just wait and see if it actually fixes the problem instead of trying to prove that Rollo is lying without even using the drivers... that's all.

Its not fixed, until its not in High Quality, or Quality. Since they have chosen for now, to leave in Quality, its not fixed.

I don't play with my drivers too much and before my 6800 Ultra I had an ATI card. Does choosing "quality" instead of "high quality" just turn on optimizations? Do frame rates jump up? What about compared to performance / high performance?

I have always used high quality and wonder if I should change to boost frame rates???? Will my image quality go way down?

Thanks for defining "fixed" for us Ackmed- we were all hoping you would.

Your framerates will go down up to 10% usually, and IQ won't be much different.

Well, obviously your definition is different. There is NOTHING "Quality" about shimmering. And we shouldnt have to put up with it.

You don't have to Ackmed- by a comparable ATI card!

Oh yeah.......errrr......ummmm..............well, you could go back to X800s! I wouldn't want you to be inconvenienced by that faint shimmer in some games in some places!

I guess we should just all accept the fact that Nvidia has inferior 3D image quality to ATI. It looks like Nvidia thinks that you should accept some shimmering in their default "quality" mode. I just hope reviewers will point this out in the future and let everyone know that while Nvidia cards may be faster, they give you inferior image quality.

Oh should we now. And how about those of us who don't have this shimmering? Like me.
No lie. Don't have it. Almost wish I did so I could actually see if it is significant or not.
Can someone please make my 6800GT shimmer?
