Shipping Carriers - what's the best option

For a small business, shipping maybe 5-10 packages a week, medium sized packages.

What's the best overall choice? Any personal experience?

For pure speed probably USPS. For business packages though it's either UPS or FedEx. FedEx is cheapest for people like me, shipping from home. They offer 15% off regular rates when opening an account online & printing your own labels. I know UPS has some pretty good business rates, but they are not available to the average Joe.

Shipping from a warehouse & have a seller's permit, so going with the business account. I decided to just open accounts & compare quotes.



On a related note - anyone have a cheap source for packing supplies? There are a lot of sites out there, gets confusing after a while.

DHL has pretty good rates I've heard

We switched to DHL and it's very cheap....also usually overnight by 3pm the next day is about the same price as 2day and ground for a lot of our items. I was able to ship a ~7lb maintenance kit overnight from FL to AZ for about $10.

DHL is really trying to win business. We are a Fortune 500 with tons of shipping a day though so YMMV.

FedEx is still cheaper.

As for supplies, I know anyone can order certain boxes & labels for free from UPS, & you can pick up free Fedex Express supplies at their stores. USPS has everything you need for free on their website.
