it also means that the blue ray disc format will really pay off as it will have the entire game content for MULTIPLE LANGUAGES on the same disk, so no need to worry. it also means that we are all going to DIE, no no i was kiddin, got carried away...!!

lol because of consoles, more games will have better graphics and multi-core processing will come faster to PCs. Consider programming for 50 million gamers who have 7800GTX series and Radeon R500 gpus or for 10 million PC gamers out of whom 200,000 if that have same powerful GPUs. To bad with all of the Anti-Fair use crap included in Blu-Ray, I am planning on boycotting it, Which in perspective is wierd because this will be the first console in 10 years I haven't purchased. Also I am kind of worried abou the price for the people who are getting it anyways, since Blu-ray players are debuting at $1,500 in July, how are they plan on getting the player in the PS3 below $500 in the first place. Add one the rest of the tech, I just don't see them being able to sell all of it at anything less then $500-$600.

u all really think that the 7900gtx's and the r580's would be as easily and abunduntly available in the market as it is today if the consoles were not using them, think again ( use thinking cap)

consoles gaming is a boon to mankind, and indirectly affects the pc games,

these gpus are available easily because ati and nvidia had already made them a while ago for 360 and ps3. not to mention they worked extra hard on it cause they were for consoles, and now we get to play them.

many think y is it that video cards are so expensive for pcs, when the same video cards are being used in consoles like the g70 series and the r 500 series, the truth is that they really are that expensive to make.

x360 and ps3 would lose money ( a lot of money) on every console they sell for the first couple of years untill over the time it is easier and cheaper to produce them. (xbox GEN 1 is still losing money, upward $100 loss per console sold).

thats where the 30 million goes, because companies like sony and microsoft can afford to lose some money now to make a lot more in the future through game sales and bigger community base. Yes, consoles are helping pc gaming, Yes- 360 and ps3 would still be a steal in reality even of it was sold for $500 with the technology that is given to us in them( which it is not 500). so be happy that we live in the world where companies are more interested in developing sales through customer loyalty instead of direct selfish- i dont care who i get the cash from as long as you have it with you- money.

Do you really think Sony did this for the gamers? Absolutely not. They did it because they know the DRM will get broken and they want to make it legally impossible for mod chip makers to say they are only circumventing region locks with the "side effect" of the console being able to run burned copies of games.

Meh, it's Sony. And I'm really pissed off with the HDCP crap, so you won't see me purchasing a PS3 anytime soon. UT2007 is one of the few games that impresses me, but it'll be better on my PC anyway.

Yup exactly.

And this generation: because of consoles, PC game makers will finally learn how to program games for multiple CPU's. Once SquareEnix, Konami, Capcom, etc start developing for PS3 (and possibly Xbox360 as well), PC developers will see how to optimize games for multiple CPU's.

This is going to be the first generations where (for at least the beginning), consoles are more powerful than (single GPU) computer systems. I can't wait to see what Japanese developers are going to do with the PS3 .

This is only partially true - we get a lot of ports from Xbox/Xbox 360 but not many from the Japanese devs that work on PS2 and soon PS3. I can see a lot of ports making their way from the 360 to the PC because of the ATi chip and DX but there's also a downside. That means less games will be created natively on the PC due to a bigger console market and ease of porting so we'll end up with rushed console ports that are full of bugs and have UI's that leave a lot to be desired. Just look at Oblivion, because it was developed for the Xbox 360 first, PC users did not get the option of HDR+AA and the UI for Oblivion is suited for consoles, not for PC's.

I wish consoles would all die off so the real devs could get back to focusing on PC's.

I agreea about the user interface. But you can get xbox360 controller for PC? Plus unless you have a racing wheel, a controller is always better than a keyboard for NFS games. I thought HDR+AA were disabled due to large performance hits? So what happens when you force AA in ATI control panel and leave HDR on in game?

There's another drawback of developers developing for both console and the PC: The user interface. Consoles obviously don't have as many key options as PCs do so many operations have to be done by some awkward method. The difference in interface between Morrowind and Oblivion is quite big and not in a positive way, at least IMHO. Well, in some particular cases it's better, but mostly I found it easier to work with Morrowind's interface.

On the positive note: I agree that todays consoles will ease multithreading transition for PC games developers. Since most enthusiasts and gamers will have multiple core procs in their machines soon (if they don't already), that will benefit us all a lot.

Yes, an Xbox360 wired controller works fine as a PC gamepad. You can buy lots of other gamepads too, but the button layouts aren't standard.

On the flip side of the "all console sucks" view is the fact that without consoles, the games market would not be what it is today. I'm not a subscriber of the view that the PS3 and Xbox360 were responsible for us getting the Geforce 7800 and 7900 series and Geforce 1800 & 1900's out so soon though. In fact, just the opposite. I think that the need to split engineers off to make these different GPU's might have delayed things.

The only console I'm truly interested in at this point is Nintendo's Revolution. They actually seem to be trying to further games than the epenis route taken by MS and Sony. One of the most laughable comments was one I read from a Sony fanboy who said that the Revolution was more evolutionary than revolutionary because it's graphics and cpu power (from the supposed leaked specs on IGN) was weak compared to the PS3 and Xbox360.
