When you were a kid, did you ever want to shoplift? Did it cross your mind? Did you do it? I remember it crossed my mind and I considered it about 10 years ago but I never did it. Now I feel wierd that I never shop lifted, while it's bad, I still feel wierd, kinda like toilet papering someone's car etc.. hmmm

Dude WTF!!!

What is the deal with this angst? Stealing is NOT NORMAL.

Worry about stealing water from mother nature. Then, you'll get your stealing fix.

I'm sure at some point I felt a tinge to shoplift because my parents didn't let me get the videogame I wanted...damn you toys r' us with your games behind glass wall : P

other than that no, I've never even taken a piece of candy. Yet, I have taken a grape and tried a coffee bean or two.

For the logical man, all temptation of stealing from others leaves when you realize this simple fact: If you can justify stealing from someone else, then someone else can just as easily justify stealing from you.

I do not steal because I do not want my sh!t to be stolen.

Morality is not altruistic. Morality does not stem from any gods or religion. Morality is purely selfish in nature.

Theft is wrong because we don't want our sh!t stolen.

Murder is wrong because we don't want to be murdered.

Adultery is wrong because we don't want our mates screwing other people.

And so on...

I'm sure I shoplifted a candy bar here or there or something like that but never anything with a value over $1.

On the other hand, do unto others before they do unto you!

I have another reason for not stealing, fear of getting caught. The least that can happen is you are embarrassed, the worse is that you end up in jail, beat up or dead dep4nding who you steal from.

I never shoplifted as a kid because I didn't want to get caught, morality had nothing to do with it.

I used to steal one or two candies from the big candy dispensers in grocery stores. I mean, come on - you're a 6-year-old kid, with a HUGE sweet tooth. These things are like 10 feet fall, and there are about 20 of them, in an aisle where no one can see you. They aren't marked with a tag or anything, so it's not hard to reach in and nab one...

Why is that such a hard concept to grasp? I know I haven't. Sure I've thought about it, but never actually done it.

you've stolen plenty. you've stolen the time of everyone on ATOT and you've stolen IQ points from everyone on ATOT because they read your posts.

besides it sounds liek you've stolen plenty of money from your parents and insurance agencies by destroying your parents' things.

Well, I was asking him, but I think it's a rare find for someone to not have stolen even a piece of bubblegum from someone.

You're thinking of PAB.

I've stolen candies when I was a kid, I mean who hasn't? I actually almost shoplifted a 1gb stick of DDR2 from Office Depot yesterday, I was walking around holding it and after a while, forgot I had it (I can scatterbrained sometimes, plus I was preoccupied), and went to walk out. I remembered I was carrying it, because I went to grab a flyer on the way out with my left hand, and I was like "Oh.", set the ram on a counter near the door and left.

Everyone at one point feels the need to shoplift because free stuff is tempting. Then again, getting caught isnt. You have to go to court and do community service.

You are an idiot to consider it.

AND... It will cost you at least $1k. You will pay 10%+ to a bail bondsman to post a bail (probably about $300) and you need to have a method of guaranteeing that total amount ($2500+). It will cost you about $750 for a lawyer as to avoid jail time as a first offender, you will need a lawyer to work to get you into a diversion program. The program will be about $300. Court fees will probably be $100+ and there could also be a fine. You could do jail or community service. If you did it just to see what it was like, the judge could send you to PMITA just so you "see what it is like".

Hmmm... We used to go into an orange grove when I was in 7th grade. When it was pointed out that that was stealing, we quit. Never have done anything like that again. So, I guess some of us rare birds do exist if you exclude the orange grove.

yes, when I was like 10 years old or so I used to take candy bars and some baseball cards, and also sodas.

there was this little medical building probably 1/8 mile from where i live, and inside they had a pharmacy. i used to go in there all the time w/my friends and buy candies. the lady who worked there was the pharmacist and would be in the back a lot making medicine. after a while she just let us put the .50$ or so onto the counter for the candy and wouldn't even come up and ring us up. so yah after we had that trust we then started to go in with like $1 and walk out with like $2 - $3 worth of stuff.

when sprite had that sweepstakes where you could win basketball gear or free sodas from the 20oz sodas, we used to open the sprites in the store, and if they were winners, we would tell the lady "yah we have a free sprite cap" and she would be like "okay just leave the cap on the counter and take your sprite" and we'd just take the ones we had opened. if it was a loser, we'd close it and put it back in the fridge.

yah it was pretty wrong, but hey we were kids. i also used to get cards from toys r us. only did that like 3 times cause a friend almost got busted doing it and it scared the crap out of us. i haven't done any stealing though in ages.

Holy Crap!
When I was between 15 - 17 Y.O., (early 70's) my older brother taught me all the tricks to "Ripping Off" the Establishment.
All the kids in his circle were really "into it".
It just seemed so easy back then.
I kinda got caught up in it to the point where I had hidden pockets sewn in my vest, had "Skeleton Keys" that fit various soda machines, you name it.
I had a rather lucrative side business stealing cartons of cigarettes and re-selling them at a discount. Stealing $2 8 Track tapes and selling them for $1, you name it. However, I wouldn't steal money, even though I could open soda machines, I only took the sodas, never the money. I felt like taking money was "stealing", but taking the merchandise was alright. Strange, Huh?
It all ended one day when I got caught red-handed stealing a $.35 can of some spice or something, I don't remember what it was.
The store manager was stern but didn't call the police, that in itself put a permanent stop to my shoplifting days forever.
That same store manager wound up being a really good friend after I got out of the military, we made sure to shop his store exclusively, and whenever I would have a check that needed cashing and couldn't make it to the bank, he would always make sure he would cash it for me, even if it meant pulling cash from a register!
