When I was about 15-16 I was addicted to shoplifting. A friend and I did some pretty crazy stuff. A large trench coat, very baggy pants with legs tucked into combat boots, and a belt did the trick. The trench coat went down past my knees.. I loaded the pants up with everything. And big things I could loosen my belt, stick the box in the waiste of my pants and tighten the belt back up. It was like our weekend fun for a year or 2. I remember counting up a couple thousand $ of merchandise many of those weekends. We'd raid a store, go dump the stuff in a field nearby, then go back for more stuff. Then later in the middle of the night we would sneak out at about 3-4am and go grab our stuff.

The sleeves on my coat went a little past my hands.. so it was easy to just pull stuff up my sleaves and tare the security device off it.

I never got caught but my friend did because he started getting careless. I quit soon after that.

That was years ago. I would never do it again.

Not since I was a child. I was caught stealing some gum when at the supermarket with my mother.

My father then started stealing my things (toys, clothes, food). After a while of me complaining about my stuff being missing, he sat me down and explained just why stealing is wrong. I never would have connected the dots had I not felt the violation of my property being taken without my consent.

It was one of the best lessons he ever taught me. And it made me realize very early why violating the rights of others is wrong.

Why is that such a hard concept to grasp? I know I haven't. Sure I've thought about it, but never actually done it.
Well, I was asking him, but I think it's a rare find for someone to not have stolen even a piece of bubblegum from someone.

Not here. Nope, never stole a thing. I've been racking my brain trying to think of something so I wouldn't be "the exceptional case." But, I know several other people who have never stolen a thing in their lives. We recently had a conversation about it at school. A parent, closely tied to the school, was caught shoplifting. The incident was brought up in one classroom. One of the students questioned the teacher, "yeah, right, like you've never taken something. Everyone does it all the time." The teacher was flabergasted - and it led to a long conversation in the faculty room where a couple people did say "I took a piece of candy when I was a little kid." But, the majority of us had never done something like that.

beautiful.
i love hearing good parenting stories.

i also stole from a store when i was about 10 y/o.
i stole a little rubber monkey. i know that sounds funny, but he was cute and i wanted him. my mother saw the monkey and asked where i got it. i couldn't lie. she could read that i had done something wrong all over my face. i told her i stole it from the store. she told me to take it back, and she didn't care how i took it back, but i had to return it. so i "un-stole" it. i put it back without being noticed as easily as i stole it.

that night our favorite babysitter was coming over to watch us and i had to remain in my room for that day plus the evening. little did i know but on my closed bedroom door my mother had placed a sign that read, "I am a stealer".

i heard the babysitter ask where i was and my mother took her to my room and read the sign on the door out loud to her. i was mortified.

i never stole again.

You may have had it cross your mind, but have you ever had things stolen from you?

It's a ****** feeling, and hence why I don't steal, plan to steal, nor ever want to.

you've stolen plenty. you've stolen the time of everyone on ATOT and you've stolen IQ points from everyone on ATOT because they read your posts.

besides it sounds liek you've stolen plenty of money from your parents and insurance agencies by destroying your parents' things.

Dude, when you make statements like that, you gotta give a link to the 'alleged thread'.

You're thinking of PAB.

I've stolen candies when I was a kid, I mean who hasn't? I actually almost shoplifted a 1gb stick of DDR2 from Office Depot yesterday, I was walking around holding it and after a while, forgot I had it (I can scatterbrained sometimes, plus I was preoccupied), and went to walk out. I remembered I was carrying it, because I went to grab a flyer on the way out with my left hand, and I was like "Oh.", set the ram on a counter near the door and left.

oh...meh...goku still steals time with his worthless posts about his mom using itunes, his dad and sister with their own broadband connections, etc.

owned. ****** for brains eh?

I stole a pack of baseball cards when I was young. An elderly woman clerk caught me, yelled at me, and kicked me out of the store and told me to never come back. I sharted in my pants. Never again.

When I was younger, my friends and I started a boosting club. We started with small $0.50 keychains and eventually went to $500+ items.

In the end, we paid back more than triple the amount we stole through fines, tickets, arrests, and an accident with a ferrari (The dam muffler costs $9k to fix) pretty much all in same week.

It was stupid but at the time it was our source of adrenaline. I know I wouldn't want anyone to steal from me but at that point in my life that didn't cross my mind.

Bottom line: Don't steal. It's not worth it. It's not natural to steal at a young age. Karma WILL get you.

Everyone at one point feels the need to shoplift because free stuff is tempting. Then again, getting caught isnt. You have to go to court and do community service.

yep, weighing the losses and the benefit. and its just not worth it. I've never either.

I stole a video card long ago. Took my brother to get his playstation game and I went to check out the video card section.

It looked like someone backed out from stealing it because it was just laying there in the backshelf behind the video card boxes, so with one motion slid it thru my coat sleeve while pretending to reach for a box in the back. It was about the size of a nic card.

Other then that I havent attempted to actually shoplift anything else but it has crossed my mind from time to time though =)

On another note my cousin got caught stealing Home Alone on VHS, I still make fun of him when someone mention something being stolen.

A friend of mine and I used to steal all the time... He got caught once and that pretty much ended all our shoplifting activities.

I stole a computer game once from a store that didn't have much cameras. My friend who was with me stole a game I think too, and a TI calculator. Surprised we didn't get caught. Looking back it was dumb, I haven't stole anything since and probably won't again.

When I was about 6 or 7 years old, I stole a bicentennial quarter from my uncle. I thought it was really cool and stole it. I got in big trouble for it. I learned my lesson. That was the last thing that I've ever stolen.

I've never ever shoplifted or considered it.
Stealing isn't earning, and I don't believe people should get stuff without somehow earning it first.
