My 10 mo old sent a glass of pop down the front of my computer and it got into all of optical drives. Burned up my Sony DVD±RW and won't boot as a result. I unhooked the DVD drive and still wouldn't boot. Booted a Win 98 setup floppy and could read the drive. Decided to try to repair install and Win XP setup disk does not find the install. Tried to install over the top and says the drive is all corrupted / unknown file system when it comes time to pick a partition to install on. Didn't actually try to install as I am not sure I want to do the NTFS thing yet.
Seems to me the MB controller has gotten hosed to some degree. Has anyone else had something like this happen? Boot drive and DVD drive were on separate channels on same controller (on board Intel P865 chipset). Everything seems to work as far as it booted the xp setup cd without a hitch. I just don't think I want to take a chance on the board with the hdd getting corrupted like that.
I just got it put together a month ago
