absolutely. He explained how things got out of hand. He apologized and was a good member, quite frankly I think its retarded anyway that he recieved a permanent ban. Man there are hundreds of false personalities on this board. He just happened to get caught up in some foolish stuff and chose the wrong way to solve it. I thought in all honesty more of a disgrace was the reaction of some of the people. Some people need help, because this is a virtual place and if you get caught all up that serious you need help. Now I am not talking about that many folks who meet each other in real life and establish a real life connection, but the way some the people carried on was totally a disgrace and 10 times worse than what Dennilfloss did. It may not be the popular opinion, but its a sound one.

 

If you unban denni, then unban everyone who committed what might be considered a lesser offense. Otherwise, this thread and discussion is worthless.

but I think the people that decide whether he has an official comeback should be the ones who really knew who he was, which is a very small number, considering how many reged members there are today.

I suspect if you asked those of us that were around, you would get a majority NO.
A sentence was laid down then, why reverse it?

Ironically, though, I wasn't completely for him being banned at the time. I thought that was an easy way out for him, and that if he stayed, he would have had to take what he was due from those he hurt.

I was a pretty active member back then, I remember dennil's weird confession. I had talked to him plenty between neochat and pms and stuff. Its weird how I was sucked into the community this forum created back then. Things that people posted actually meant something to me. Dennil did creep me out quite a bit, I will leave the judgement to others, but it made me uncomfortable.

At this point I am not at all emotionally attached to this forum, I don't visit every day obsessively, its a part time hobby when I'm bored. I don't know about others, but I feel its hard to have that same community environment anymore. In that regard, I don't think he could possibly cause any harm, things have changed and it wasn't like he didn't post some interesting threads or contribute to conversations.

That said, I will still look skeptically at any post that has the borg icon and the word dennilfloss written next to it. No other person on this forum can quite disturb me like him.

In All honesty...its just one more person to Nef with on the boards... I want here when he was so I dont know how hurtful it actually was, but from what Ive read, it seemed to affect the members strongly. I feel that if he DOES come back....its going to always turn into flame wars against him...and will make Off Topic even WORSE that it has been getting....

Moderator: Not to offend, I certainly don't want to do that, but the sentiments expressed here are exactly why it would be unfair to unban dennil if Shiner or others weren't unbanned. Sure, Shiner acted childish AFTER he was banned, but Dennil did one of the most fvcked up things I've ever seen. I think a lot of people that were perma banned for NON malice filled things should be given another chance but that's just. Sorry if my comments are out of line that is not my intention. I honestly feel, however, that because he was a moderator Dennil should be held to a higher standard, so offering him a chance to come back, but blatantly stating that Shiner is perma forever is insane. Thus, the thread should be locked and the discussion should be over. If this post is out of line then feel free to delete and I can PM you instead.

Malice is too strong of a term. He never did it with the intention of hurting anyone. His odd fantasy just got out of control. WAY out of control. It's not like he sat back and said "oh man, I wonder how I can nail all those suckers who get too emotionally attached to folks on the intarweb... hmm... oh, I know! I'll create a fictional character, make them all fall in love with her or feel sorry for me over my struggle for her, and then KILL HER OFF! MWUAHAHAHAHAAHA" ...or anything along those lines.

It was just a stupid fantasy that he wanted to live out but could only do so digitally that got way out of control.

The lies are one thing, but he used his position of "trust" to drive others from the forums (the founder of the Seti team for example).

I'm someone who never trusted his stories (and got a certain amount of crap for it) but I didn't care about the stories. What I cared about is what he was happy doing to other members.

He got busted and banned for life and that should be the end of it.

Hey if they want back in and they've shown reform too, then why not? Neither one of them did anything so particularly horrid that they deserve some sort of legal reprimand, so what's the big fvckin deal?

Just like it was said before, it's not like the mods can't ban him again and it's not like everyone's going to magically trust every word that comes out of his mouth anyway. Well, maybe the people who don't have grudge problems anyway. He's getting a bad rap for doing something five years ago that wasn't really all that bad to begin with. I'm sure folks here pointing fingers have done much, much worse.
