i currently see a special sale on ATI Rage Fury Pro (retail) for $99 canadian, should i but this card?

i know that you all will say buying Radeon or GeForce instead of this one, but i have a Radeon32 ddr already and buying this RageFuryPro is for upgrading my old K6/2-300 system. Do you think this is worth to upgrade? or just buy another Radeon?

My old system has K6/2-300, 128SDRam, Xpert98 8Mb AGP2x, ATI-TV ISA.
My brother use it for school work and web surfing or watching VCD or Tv
and is this card be okay for playing game cause we always fight for playing game on the new one.

*After 15 postings, i have some conclusion and some new questions, see below

so in generally, rage fury pro isn't a good card after all (especially on K6/2 or slow system)except it's vivo function.

but tell the true, i don't use vivo at all and my room was far away from my tv set and vcr; i just run a 50 inch tv-cable through the floor from living room to my room. i do watch tv on my comp. and record my favorite shows digitally but for video editing, i simply just use firewire to connect to my vcam.

i want to buy the rage fury pro because it SEEMS to be a good card, a good deal and my friend told me its nice video playback quality and 2d quality. for 32mb, i thought it should be nice 3d card but i was wrong.

so now what i should buy? voodoo2, voodoo3, tnt2, geforce mx or radeon le?
please, give me a advice

I wouldn't... You should just get a GF2MX for about 80 dollars. Better performance in games, and since its not your main computer, who cares if it doesn't have the best 2D quality.

I'd like to know where this $100 CDN Rage Fury Pro is!!
If it's a retail box, it may even qualify for a $60 mail-in rebate.
$40 for this VIVO card would be cracking!

It offers better than TNT2-performance, almost TNT2Ultra... plus Texture compression and Vido In Video Out.... not too bad if you're only a CASUAL gamer!

If you can get the rebate, even better! $40 to $50 would be an AWESOME deal on this card!

And for whalen and others, this is $CANADIAN dollars. Multiply by 0.66 to get average US price. Yeesh.

its a good card for a k6-2/300 easily. no use wasting money on a geforce, that will give you worst 2d and no vivo. rage fury pro with newest drivers, is probably as fast as a tnt2 ultra btw , well in 32bit colors

I agree completely with BFG10K.
However, the Radeon DDR LE is THE BEST bargain for a video card IMHO. It is only $85 shipped from www.newegg.com ( I don't know about Canadian shipping though).

I had the Fury Pro. It's performance was about the same as a good TNT2 card. For $100, I would get a RadeonLE or a GeforceMX. If only for the resale value down the road.

i think i would go with the Radeon 64ddr from ATI trade-up program (CDN$225 after $60 rebate).

As i saw a article "K6/2-K6/3 upgrade guide", the K6/2 would go upto it's system limit with GeForce2 MX; and for the price of Geforce2Mx, i can buy a new radeon64ddr vivo.( lucky enough, i have a 1mb pci video card to trade with ati)

i will put my Radeon 32 from the new computer to the old one , and put the newly Radeon64 into my new computer.

thanx guys

For a K6 or K6-2 *below* 400-500mhz, I'd just snag the cheapest Voodoo2 or even Voodoo3 you can get your hands on. I've seen Voodoo3 3000 OEM's (AGP though) for $100 Canadian, and that would be better (in my opinion) to the Rage Fury Pro, as fas as GAMING is concerned.
Grab a $25 Voodoo2 to tide you over until you can get a CPU upgrade.
Then get a faster processor with something like a Radone LE or GF2 MX card.

but 2d quality is important.
all the visual except in the games is in 2d environment; and you use your computer not only for playing games but word processing, doing school works, surfing internet or reading document. without a good 2d quality, your computer will hurt your eyes and visuals when you using it; and at that time, your computer is really for playing games only.

I was all excited thinking the Rage Fury Pro card was $100 - 60 rebate, but at $160 - 60, that $100 could be spent far better elsewhere. With a CPU speed of only a K6-2 400, it won't be able to Max out a Voodoo3 (my Celeron 450 can't even do it.) A TNT1, cheap TNT2, Voodoo2 (with your existing video) or a cheap Voodoo3 will be a nice tide-over for gaming. I vote for the cheapest voodoo2 you can get your hands on (under $30US or so) and start saving up for a CPU/motherboard upgrade. Maybe even one of the K6-3 chips if you want to keep your motherboard, although spending a little more for a Duron/Tbird + new motherboard will get you far more processing power for the dollar.

don't get it...it blows something massive, epecially on that system

my voodoo banshee w/ miniport openGL drivers worked better on my k6-2 350@450 than did the ATI rage fury pro card i had...for about 2 weeks and got rid of it...

my savage 2k worked better in fact...(whcih i also got rid of in favor of sticking w/ my banshee for that particular system)

u can get a radeon 32mb ddr LE for 135 @ canada computers which is lcoated toronto downtown (college st., where 1234123 computer shops are)

i woudln't get it unless u don't care for moderately decent 3d performance and want VIVO...

i wouldn't get an MX either..

I say get a TNT2 or voodoo3. Of course 3dfx isn't going to be making anymore driver updates for voodoo3. You can use nvidia reference drivers which will continue to be updated. I wouldn't use ATI board until they do something about the quality of their drivers. The drivers are a bit lacking and they have had enough time to refine the drivers for the radeon. Win2k drivers are a perfect example. Look at how often nvidia's drivers get leaked.

Xgamer: Um, yeah, 2d isn't important, except when you aren't playing 3d games and you are staring at the 2d portion of your card, such as web surfing, word processing, e-mail, etc.

Humm, ok....But any tnt/geforce card will have fine 2D quality. I have tried all the cards are see very small visual difference. I guess maybe there are alot of non-gamers on this forum who sit and stare at the desktop, web or apps all day long and really need the highest 2D quality possible. Thats great I guess, but pretty stupid to be looking for a G2/G3 just for that. I have seen people saying they are gonna buy a 64 meg Radeon(or however you spell it), or a $600 Geforce3 , just so they can get better 2D quality, I mean, cant get anymore stupid than that..

Remember when I talked earlier about "used to the fuzz"?

Trust me, man... unless you've got a cheap monitor, if you tried anything OTHER than a Geforce at higher than 800x600 on the desktop, there's a whole world of difference. If you have to word process for 2 hours straight, your eyes will thank you. Even Intel's i810 imbedded video is quite sharp at higher resolutions... there simply is no excuse for fuzzy text.
