Win10 has far more features then 7, only Aero and WMC I can think of in Win7 and are somethings I don't miss.

Win10 comes with built in AV, PDF reader, can unzip files, Recovery and Reset, DX12 important for gaming,Microsoft Store,Cortana, snap assist,Edge browser(FF user myself however), Win+X short cut menu( one of my favourites from 8).

I could say its free to 7/8 users and that in itself makes it great value for money over any previous Microsoft OS since pre DOS days.

Just some of things off top of my head.

Has to security improvements in 10 try "Google", I'm not doing all your homework for you.

Feature wise Win7 has nothing much over XP and we all know how old that OS is and 7 is more of a sideways upgrade over Vista SP2.

I have been busy rolling Win10 upgrades back for my customers and had one dropped off yesterday with the explicit instructions NOT to upgrade to 10. I snagged my own copy of 10 but rolled back to 7 because 10 doesn't offer anything I need and takes away many features that I use, one of them being exercising control over what is happening and when it happens. Some people like 10 but so far among my customers it's a no go.

I'll make the move when it has something that I need but right now it's a downgrade, IMO.

win 7?? I am still running win 95 on all my rigs.....
Never liked the 9x family, personally. It was just so unstable, with memory leaks here and there, requiring frequent reboots and reinstalls every now and then. Hell, it wasn't even a proper 32-bit operating system. And you are still running it, Master Yoda

I had fond memories of Win98SE, was more of a polished Win95 back then.

End of the day every OS has its good and bad points, still was a bit of a shock going from DOS to Win95 for me lol, I hated Win3.11.

Getting back to main topic, can't say I had any issues with Win10, stability is excellent, gaming wise had no issues and have put quite a few games through its paces.

New PC makes more sense to go with Win10 then 7, especially since Microsoft is really pushing 10 now ie other threads like " New CPUs require Win10" etc...

You know support for 10 will be there end of the day.

Just install windows 10 and classic shell and put on a nice desktop background and ignore rather ugly looking menus.. it's not the end of the world. Don't forget to turn off all the privacy intruding features and the windows update torrent style sharing service they have turned on by default.

My main gripe at this point is simply that their metro interface is so bland looking.. if they gave it a brighter, 3D, glossy, and/or transparent look with rounded edges I'd be more receptive to it. Also there's a lot of inconsistency.. you've got the new style mixed in with the old style so you've got lots of different formats menus are displayed in. Overall it's a solid operating system and you can turn off all the intrusive features. Google to find guides.

I can't find it now, but I saw a screenshot of a Win10 build with the option to do a little more UI customisation, specifically the title bars of Windows could have their background colour altered. The screenshot I saw had the typical Win10 look but with a blue title bar. It looked better, IMO. Hopefully it wasn't a fake screenshot.

Admittedly I think Win7's translucent UI works against it, because while it helps take attention away from useless UI elements (black areas of the taskbar, for example), it also makes reading the title bar text more difficult than it ought to be. Disabling translucency helps that problem but then attracts my attention back to the useless UI elements

Win8x / Win10 improves on the point of reading title bar text, but it looks bland to the point that I could have placed the text on that bar myself and it would still look just as boring / amateurish. I thought the Win98 look for the title bars was the most polished look, but unfortunately gradients went out of fashion

I've had a gripe for nigh-on a decade about the reduction of UI customisation options, namely since Vista was released. At some point there'll be a spoof of this problem, like the "Graphics ON/OFF" option mentioned in this spoof : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1ZtBCpo0eU

I admit I have not kept up on the Win10 privacy controversy but if I use gmail, is windows any less private?

Apparently this is an option in the current latest release build (available through WU), under Personalize > Colours, then 'show colour on start, taskbar, action centre and title bar': enable. It doesn't work on all Window types, the Metro-type windows for example ignore the setting.

Win10 version11099 is irritating me a bit atm, but I've been playing guinea pig away now one the main and will see if they patch it. They seem to have nerfed Adobe Flash a bit on that build.

Hmm, looks like 11102 out, see if they fixed anything.

I might back up to an earlier build of it myself at this rate, the new ones are being a little odd.

Just force fed Win10 11102 on here, nothing has exploded yet.

()

Time to drive it around a bit and kick the wheels.

*EDIT* Cool, a couple programs that stopped working in 11099 work again.

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

The plan is to to release more builds into the fast ring from here on out, which may mean more bugs.
