Should I upgrade?

Hey AT! Just wanted to get some of your opinions on whether I should upgrade or not. My current rig is an Athlon 64 3200 (Winchester), will be getting an ASRock 939-Dual2 (PCIe and AGP), a gig of ram, and some big IDE hard drives. I currently have the BFG 6800 Ultra OC (AGP ed). I was thinking about selling the Ultra while it's worth anything, to get a smaller card and some cash, like a 6800 GS, 7600 GT or 7800 GT (in PCIe). I was looking at some benchies, and the 7600 GT seems like a nice card, but 78 GT seems to be the best bet. I was looking to make my decision depending on how much I get from the ultra, but I'm probably leaning towards a 7800 GT somehow. The Ultra I have is BFG and has the Zalman heatsink/fan (all-copper) installed. Anyhow, I was just wondering what you guys thought about upgrading, and what a fair price for my 6800 Ultra would be (was thinking somewhere around $230?). Thanks in advance!

I am in a similar situation(with a regular 6800 AGP) and after a lot of research I decided it was not worth it. Even dropping the cash for a high end card won't give you much more than twice the performance of your ultra. My plan is to wait with this card for at least another year or two and then go PCI-E. By then, there will be a last-generation socket 939 chipset out (939 will be a budget platform for a while longer, so expect at least one or two more generations of chipsets which support it).

Same here. Same mobo, Opteron 170, 2Gb ram and a AGP X800XTPE.

Should I get a PCI-E card, if so, which one?

Well, considering that the prices on AGP cards start to skyrocket when you want high performance...I would just get a PCI-E card. Especially while ATI and Nvidia is rivaling with the 7900's and what-not. I would recommend the eVGA 7900 GT's, but good luck on getting them!! They are back-ordered out the butt-isimo The 7800 GT's are nice for the price as well.

I do have an un-opened eVGA 7800 GT CO 256mb (256-P2-N517-AX) for sale. PM me if you are interested ($290). It literally hasn't even been opened or anything. If you need a card NOW...get mine Lol, seriously----look towards a 7800. If you can wait a month, get a 7900.
