What do you think the Democrats can do about race relations?

Stop fanning the damned flames for one. They use it as a hot button issue to rile people up just as much as the GOP about illegals and terrorists and such.

Same can be said of Dems and race relations.

Dems are often too eager to make accusations of racism against people who bring up anything touching racial issues.

Republicans are consistently too eager to accuse anything that helps lower-income Americans (e.g. food stamps, school lunches) as bribes or things that are 'meant to keep people in poverty'. For example, Paul Ryan's idiotic comments about school kids with 'full stomachs and empty hearts'.

Can you please provide an example of a Democrat Congress critter "fanning the flames"?

Yeh, take a look at what's happening in the federal judiciary & tell us it's a good thing. Tell us that the tax bill looting spree is a good thing.

What I'm hearing from you is "we want to be obstructionists", but as Obama learned it's not a good thing for America to have a dysfunctional government. At some point power has to be seized to make changes happen. When the people have had enough of this gridlock, I hope those elected won't be the least deserving. But if 2016 is any indication... a desperate people can end up doing stupid and desperate things.

What I'm saying is, I hope those playing with matches aren't afraid of getting burned.

Who voted to oppose the continuing resolution? The rank partisanship on this subject isn't something I enjoy seeing.

Gawd. After 8 years of the most obstructionist congresses in history you're giving us this song & dance?

When Dems are taking a principled stand for common decency from our GOP brethren?

Go ahead and support the shutdown as it will likely make the rich richer and the poor poorer. The wealthy are probably going to celebrate the money they’ll make in the shutdown by laying off a few thousand workers while ordering another bottle of $2000 wine at Per Se with the bundles of cash they’ll charge the Feds for restarting their contract after the freeze is lifted.

The Republicans shut down the government and you post this?

GOP hates the federal government. They shut it down.

Making Mick Mulvaney the head of OMB/CFPB, Rick Perry head of Energy, Pruitt head of EPA, and Zinke the head of Interior are really the only evidence you need of that.

Congress looks stuck and the WH is missing in action.

Most watchers seem to think either there will be a deal for a shorter CR or this will drag on for days/weeks. Even while Republicans deplore the shutdown some seem to recognize that the WH is at least partially to blame for tossing two compromises that could have resulted in workable plans because Trump is surrounded by immigration hardliners who want everything and will settle for nothing less. He's put himself in a position with no flexibility and until he decides to change his mind there are few options for a resolution.

Not sure why you are asking me this. I was looking for examples of Democrats fanning the flames of race relationships.

I’m guessing you’re in the category of people who will lose money rather than make money.
I think you are confused about who supports, and indeed caused, the shutdown. The Republicans, the paid stooges for the ultra-rich, caused the shutdown.

Mulvaney just went on record the other day that it is "kind of cool" to the the person that technically implements the government shutdown.
http://www.cnn.com/2018/01/20/politics/mick-mulvaney-government-shutdown-kind-of-cool/index.html

He's a tea party a-hole who had previously made it public knowledge that he didn't think a shutdown was a big deal.

IIRC, Trump appointed him right after coming into office thinking it would please the base. Apparently didn't realize that his base and the tea party base seem to top out at 38%.

How cute, you think I care about who gets blamed.

And after a full day of acrimonious blame and no talks Congress has called it a day.
