guys,
finally had some spare cash to buy one of these, so far i'm pretty impressed (it's tiny! and light! and easy to put together!), but i'm having a couple of problems:
1) boot time is awful - when it gets to the "detecting ide devices" part it slows to a crawl - takes a minute or more! i tried disabling the slaves on both channels and setting the primary master to manual detect and it didn't change a bit. once it finally does detect the optical drive (which it does, at least, get right!), it just sits for a minute or more on the post screen doing nothing. i can tap like mad on the "del" key to get to the bios setup and it still just sits there. what the hell is it doing? is this expected? it seems completely unacceptable to me, and something i didn't see in any of the many reviews i read.
FIXED!!!
2) once i get past the painful boot time and it finally reads the winXP boot cd it seems to get stuck. i see the message "booting from cd" and then the screen goes blank ... and stays blank! the signal light on my monitor is on so it's getting something, but what it's getting is a blank screen! i've tried both video out ports, doesn't seem to help. any clues here?
FIXED!!!
my config: athlon xp1800+, 2x crucial 256mb pc2100, wd 80gb hd, unformatted; hitachi dvd-rom drive.
Edit
thanks, guys, the hd jumper settings fixed everything ... but now i've got a new problem. winxp pro installed fine and was working like a champ until i connected the shuttle to my tv. tv output worked fine but now i don't get anything on my pc monitor! i thought the chipset is supposed to detect what's connected and configure itself accordingly. what's up with that?!
