Simple question about fans

Hi all,

It might be a very stupid question, but what does 80mm in a fan description refer to? Is it the span of its blades or the length of one of the sides of the square?

80mm x 80mm

This is both the length of a side and the diameter of the blades. The blades just about reach the ends of the fan itself.

its the outer dimensions. Otherwise, there would be no need for a L x W type measurement because blades rotate in a circle...(they would just specify one length in that case
