Hmmm, interesting.

On another note I have some bad news for those in Europe(including UK) and Australia.

Sins (turns out there is a game called "Solar empire" ) has yet to find a publisher in Europe willing to carry the game. Stardock has stated that these publishers believe that space RTS games no longer sell.

Australia will have the game shipped 2 months later sometime in April.

HOWEVER, the game can be bought and downloaded instead (http://www.sinsofasolarempire.com/store.aspx). Digital download you will only be able to download the game, but later if you chose you can order the Collectors Edition for $5 extra + shipping and handling (currently $10 in the USA, $20 outside the USA). The CE version is only available by online order from stardock. The download size is approximately 1 gig.

From what i have read, Stardock is charging $5 more for their digital download then the "Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price" because publishers are giving them a lot of trouble (can't sell hard copies in Europe for example), and by not competing with publishers they are more happy.

Ok, it's confirmed, PC Gamer interviewed Sins of a Solar Empire developer, and it is confirmed that the game IS a real time strategy game 100%. It uses 4x/tbs elements, but the game is 100% real time.

Been arguing with some of the devs on the Sins site and pried a tib bit of information out of them.

Seems the digital download also includes the music (digital copy of the cd) and .pdf of the artwork. The tech-tree poster, hot-key card and physical manual are not included in the DD (obviously the physical manual, but no printable tech poster or hot-key card).

HOWEVER, this is what was posted in a thread by what i "think" is a dev, this is not mentioned anywhere else on their site or TotalGaming.net (other store you can order/pre-order from, AND a loop hole where you can download the beta 4 of sins with TG's token system apparently)

I've been following this thread and also read the other Sins threads from a couple months ago. I just wanted to add my two cents - I truly think Ironclad and Stardock have a true winner on their hands. It's games like this one that remind me why I love gaming. I was part of the beta 1 and it was a pleasure to see how Ironclad developed it and how they responded to the Community and their level of involvement with it.

I'll be looking forward to some Sins games with a few of you.

Well, tomorrow is the release day of Sins of a Solar Empire.

Keep in mind that all hard copies are shipping from the eastern USA so it will probably a few days until they are in stores.

No hard copies will be sold in Europe still, but you can order the game (digital or box) from anywhere in the world. If you have/are buying the digital download, it should be up around 9:00pm GMT give or take a hour or 2. They have also hired another company to host the download that they feel will not buckle under the stress.

This will be the last time i'll dig up this thread as reviews will be popping up soon.

If you have any questions about the game, the stickies in the General Discussion forum should have a answer.

Meh, doesn't seem 4xish enough.
More like an RTS with slightly more advanced diplomacy options.

Well, there will be plenty of reviews out soon to tell you if this is the case or not.

The voice overs in game (that I've heard in the posted youtube vids) sound a bit cheesy.. But I'm not going to dismiss the game out of hand entirely just yet.

They seem to have redone the voices and its only when you directly click a unit that it replies.

I just downloaded the game (legit) so tomorrow i should have all the details.

No singleplayer campagin?

It sounds like a lot of fun, but I like some story with my gameplay. I know most people prefer that the time be spent making multiplayer/skirmish better.

Edit: From the FAQ

Q. What exactly do you mean by the phrase "epic scale"?
A. The story and lore begin over ten thousand years before the player enters the game, involve entire civilizations, and are planned well into the future.

Gameplay objectives include grand concepts like: conquering planets with fleets of starships and taking control of entire solar systems.

Incredible distances and large size differences are used to create a sense of awe and to introduce new strategic elements.

Oh boy!

I arrived home then I started playing the game last night after zapping my beta build and downloading the game - it took about 20 minutes for the downloading and extraction. I figured I'd fool around with a small game (Zero Point map I think) before closing it and getting to it on the weekend.

Whoops. Those couple minutes somehow turned into 5 hours and 40 minutes. I played the Advent with the AI playing on Normal and my saving grace was that I managed to grab some planets very early; the AI was too busy fighting with the pirates I bribed to get involved with me.

Over the course of the night I lost some planets to sieging, but also took some back too so it was all good. I worked my way up the tech tree (which is still huge, and I love the Logistics/Fleet expansion techs!), created a giant fleet and then attacked and retreated with it a couple times before returning and smashing the enemy in a huge onslaught, grabbed some screens while I could too. This game is too much fun!

Weak!

I remember watching an interview saying that they wanted to stress high quality skirmish maps. Think of it like the Civilizations games where there really is no campaign, you just build your civ up and conquer the universe. They also are releasing a campaign editor so that the community can create their own campaigns.

Civilizations had a campaign. At least the later ones did.

Although I can't say for sure because I haven't actually played the game yet, but, you seem to be clearly missing the point. Yes there are campaigns that come with Civ4, but they are their purpose is really supplementary to the "grand campaign" that really isn't a story or mission based campaign. It's more freeform and open play where you build up your civ and then own the world thru any means you want. This was the main focus of each and everyone of the Civilizations (and Galatic Civilizations II, which is probably a better comparison than Civ)... From what I heard, this is how Sins is supposed to be setup also. Perhaps someone who owns the game can chime in?
