SIS 735

[Demonburp]

Hi everyone..
just bought the ECS Elitegroup SIS 735 board for my athlon 1.4ghz.
Big improvement from my old Duron 700 of course, but I'm wondering what other
users experiences with this board are? Any issues/incompatabilities to look out for?
I've still to upgrade my graphics card and my memory to ddr..
At the moment I'm torn between the Hercules Kyro2 64mb and the gforce2 MX 400 64mb...the gforce mx is over 50$ cheaper, but I've heard the kyro2 is a damn fine card....At the moment I'm addicted to Max pane..will the Kryo2 perform ok in this game despite not having T&L?
Also, any recommendations for the DDR memory? Where I am the main suppliers are Apacer, Samsung and Infineon..

No major issues with K7S5A. It's a great board. For DDR memory, go Crucial they have dirt cheap prices, but the best quality in my opinion. For the video, I dunno about how Max Payne does, but I will say that in everything else, KII is well worth the extra $50 compared to MX400. If u do need T&L then a GF2 GTS is now around $100, KII does in general perform better than GTS but the T&L may or may not make a difference for u. Anybody know about Max Payne and KII?

Having owned the MX and the Kyro II (and on my third time through Max Payne), I would definitely go with the Kyro. It handles the higher resolutions much better....you won't be disappointed. You can find other brands of Kyros on Pricewatch that are about the same price as the MX, and from what I've read, they're just as good as the Hercules (I bought an OEM Hercules for $109, and I also have the K7S5A and a 1.4 Athlon).

Max Payne is great with the system!

Only thing I've seen in a review and on other forums is there seems to be a problem with the power management with this chipset. It does not always recover from standby or sleep mode. Has anyone experienced this?

Ok..Kyro II it is...actually, always had a soft spot for the company that made the power VR chip
I spent months defending it against the original voodoo 1 cards so it does feel good to be going
back to them. Besides, Nvidia is too common these days...everyone seems to have one of their cards!

I know you'll like the Kyro. I'm running all my games (Giants, Anachronox, Max Payne, Deus Ex, B&W........................and many, many more) at the 1024x768 with all setting on max, and it looks fantastic. And you're right, it's nice to support the underdog. I think that Nvidia has something to worry about with this chip, especially when the Kyro III comes along.

Well if it makes u feel any better, I'm not nVidia. I'm stuck with S3 ProSavage (Savage4 basically).
