if u wait for the SIS 745, u won't have as many stability/compatibility issues...also, the perforamnce should be slightly (and unnoticeably) slower on the SIS 735 using the same settings..however, it will allow the use of pc2700 memory without jacking your FSB out of control...it'll allow for asynchronous operation of 133/166 (fsb/mem), which should counter it's slower performance and in fact overtake the kt266a

and u won't even need pc2700 to make use of it...a lot of high quality pc2100 hits 266mhz no prob...as well as even the corsair pc2400 modules.

and of course, the NB runs cool requiring no HSF = less heat, less noise, etc...and they should be cheaper than kt266a boards (from ECS at least)

When you first start a new thread, click the poll button and input the variables. It's too late now.

I personally have seen and experienced a large number of problems with VIA solutions.

Sb Live issues, IDE issues, and AGP problems

You almost have to patch every VIA product.

I do not like buying 2nd party chipsets... My Intel rig has Intel chipsets and my AMD rig has an AMD chipsets on them. Less hassel with compatiblity issues normally.

2ndly Patient stealing by VIA is very shady business deal. I work at my fathers business and we liscenes products out to other companies too.

SiS paid big bucks for that P4 bus, while VIA pretty much stole it from another deal they had with Savage. The whole media and lawyers have twisted it around. Its wrong plan and simple, many people have forgotten ethics. What I am saying is do not promote this and stay away from VIA.

I have not really had a chance to work much with SiS solutions, but on paper they look good.

I would buy the SiS!

Here's my hypotisis, I know that KT266A uses a slightly newer mem controller than P4X266, but considering that SiS 645 beats the pants off P4X266, and than 745 will likely too use a slightly newer controller, I am very hopeful of 745, and especially ECS' K7S6A because not only will it (hopefully) be just as fast as KT266A, but also I read that K7S6A will have some overclocking options, so we'll see. Only benchy's will tell.......

PC2100 is supposed to run @ 266. Unless it's really 266DDR which would be 533MHZ.:Q

SiS 745, hands down. Everyone knows how I feel about VIA chipsets, and it appears I'm not alone in this regard. SiS 735 has been nothing short of a godsend. To this day, there is zero real-world performance difference between SiS 735 and KT266A. A few points in benchies, of course, but unless you're a Sandra kiddie...

SiS 745 will support asynchronous timing, such that your FSB can run 133 but your RAM 166 (PC2700). And I'm fairly confident the memory controller will be very close to that contained in SiS 645 (which appears to be superior to i845-D and i850).

So add another vote for awaiting ECS' K7SA6.

didou!!!

my bad - i meant 333 (pc2700)....whoops.

when reference samples came out for that and the 645, tons of reviewers got their pc2100 modules to work perfectly at 333mhz...
