Still, I think punk skateboarders deserve that kind of treatment.

Pfft. Her arms were stiff; I think he took an NBA-style dive for the camera.

They were told repeatedly not to skate there. They intentionally skated in front of the cop to get a reaction. This entire video is a setup.

She didn't push, she held out her arms to stop him. His dive was about as theatrical as it gets.

If I repeatedly defy a police order I fully expect them to become physical. That's their job.

Yet, in the video, he feigns not knowing about the ordinance?

The punk was out there looking for trouble.

Cheyne Dowds has not decided what to do about the incident, which he calls an assault. He said skaters sometimes pick a spot where they shouldn't be, but he says they are never belligerent and always leave when told.

'If we're skating a spot, and the curb's really good, and someone comes out to complain, that's OK,' Dowds said. 'If we're doing something wrong, we know it, we'll go.'

Right, we just ignore the ordinance we know about until someone comes out to complain. Apparently the rules only apply when you're "assaulted".

so what if htey knew about the ordinance. that still does not justify what the cop did.

I still see her actions as trying to stop him to pull him down from the edge - and his reaction was to take a "OMG FOUL!" dive.

Edit: Don't get me wrong - I know there are cops that use excessive force. I don't think this is one of them. She didn't taze him, she didn't pepperspray him, she didn't have a closed fist, and her arms were stiff, not shoving.

This was an obvious case of two people intentionally trying to get a reaction from an officer.

She held out her arms to physically stop the skater. His dive was for the camera.

considering she walked up and shoved him. NO warning no nothing. it is wrong.

yes i bet they were doing it to get a rise otu of her and she told them to leave once or more. but even that does not justify her shoving him (yes he floped on it).

Clearly, you don't get it. Lots of people here think cops should only use ice cream cones and flowers to fight crime.

And the response "Ohhh, it looks like you just assaulted someone..." makes me think the kids were trying for it.

Damned punks - they should be glad it's not 30 years ago, when they'd have been removed from their skateboards by a billy club. Seriously, kids like that do crap just to see how far they can push it. Skaters EVERYwhere know to look for no boarding signs, and these two seem like the type who were happy just to ignore it and see how long they could get away it with.

please.they were skating it because it was a cool spot, probably had the video camera for filming their tricks.

they were skating it because it was a cool spot, but they most likely knew they were in the wrong, as well as trespassing/ "vandalizing" and doing something they shouldnt have been doing. the cop stopped the kid, her job was complete. i skated at ASU here in tempe, and a lot more happened to us when we decided to skate on the fountain (that we knew we werent supposed to skate on). we did the complaint thing, since one of our friends cut his head as he hit the ground, but it went nowhere, since we were "destroying public property". the kids arent idiots, they knew they would at least get kicked off the premises for doing it.

While it wasn't right what she did...

Lots/most skaters know full well that you can't skate on public property and go ahead and do it anyways.

I'm sure it didn't hurt him anymore than a railslide-fvckup (the kind where your balls hit the rail).

And it looks kind of fishy. If skaters were thrashing up a place in front of cops they must have been wanting the attention, sorry to say. They got what they wanted.

Listen CAREFULLY. Turn your sound up. She's yelling at them during the majority of the video.

They had been repeatedly told not to skate there. She tells them that while Mr Camera man is having a theatrical moral meltdown that deserves an academy award.

If you repeatedly defy a police order they are JUSTIFIED in using physical means to stop you.

Could it have been handled better by the cop? Probably.

Does this qualify as assault? Not even close, in my book.

The only reason you are alive today and own property is because of the police and the protection they provide.

How do you suggest she uphold the no skating law if the skaters won't stop?

Beg? Plead?

Give me a break. She was justified in using physical force to stop them when they repeatedly defied the law and a police order.

Clearly you've been wronged somehow by the cops that keep your house from being broken into, your car from being stolen, and keep your mother from being raped.

Clearly you've got a chip on your shoulder because there are rules and people paid to make you follow them.

It's not her job to decide whether skaters are dangerous - it's her job to stop skaters that are completely ignoring the rules that prohibit skaters in that park. It's not a rule she made up. It isn't by chance that she's in that park, looking for skaters. That's her beat. It's where she works. It's her JOB to enforce the RULES where she works.

What part of that makes her ****** swine? The part where she made the person ignoring the city's laws and her yelling at them stop skating? Or the immature part of you that just wants to be angry at something?

I'm sure crime isn't nil. Maybe violent, reported crime is nil. Maybe crime that directly affects your selfish rear is nil.

I grew up in a similar sized town, with a single, part time cop. Not much would show up in the paper, but there was PLENTY of crime.

This thread is great. The true colors of internet whiners truly shines. How was what she did a push? Would you like to try pushing something with a stiff arm? Let us know how that goes? Stiff arm = do not proceed beyond this point. I mean, how blind do you need to be to not see how there wasn't any pushing motion at all?
