While I'm no health expert, I feel things would be better if the above quote was changed to "Exercise a lot, cardio, weight training. Dieting helps." I'd place more emphasis on exercise and less on dieting.

Diet (not dieting) is 90+% of fitness, with exercise being the remainder. If you exercise daily but still put away 2 big macs or a load of taco bell you're still going to be overweight. Not to mention the havoc it wreaks internally, which you don't see.

Now, I mean diet, as in, life-change eating healthy forever stuff. Not I'm-only-going-to-eat-salad-for-2-weeks dieting, there is a huge difference. And the latter usually doesn't work.

If you don't want to be skinny fat start doing resistance exercises. Even bodyweight stuff will help! Chronic cardio is pretty bad for you too!

yeah i've got some love handles and some fat rolls when i sit down.

i could stand to lose 20 lbs.

I'm gonna do some cardio a few times a week and see how it goes.. I don't really eat badly, I think it's because I just spend most days on my ass.

I'm definitely in this boat. 6'2" and 190lbs, though I fluctuate to 183. Still I'm getting tits and handles like there's no tomorrow.

I certainly agree with the fact that diet has an important part in fitness (though not as high as 90%) and I'm not advocating that pure exercise will ever compensate for a constant very large intake (unless the exercise expends that many calories that is).

I was just nit-nicking a little at the phrasing of the statement I quoted. I feel that most of the weight loss advice I've seen or heard about had always mentioned the diet side but exercise doesn't seem to have the same emphasis. I guess I just view that diet and fitness should get equal emphasis because otherwise you get low body weight and no stamina which isn't exactly fit.
