It's one thing for people to find someone's far fetched posting humerous. You, the asshat that you are, have to actually take it personally, and try to ban people off a friggin' forum.
You haven't even been here a month yet & you're already pissing people off.
Back a long time before you joined this place, hell before your mental equivalency was an itch in his daddy's pants, AT was a community - There are people here I've known and respected for almost four years, people I consider to be friends.
There are members of this forum who wouldn't think to lie about who they are, we present ourselves exactly as we are - And we enjoy each other's company.
There is no place for anything else here.

That is all well and fine, but don't you even sense a growing trend of people using this reason for whatever means they want to try to get someone banned or socially reprimanded? I am not saying Skoorb is one of those people; just over the years, he's a ranter and ranters need to rant somewhere...better over the internet where it is truly harmless rather than another form of displacement.
Think of what is happening
"I'm a xxxx-member with xxxx posts and I think these (whatever that they are pmsing about) people need to be banned because it goes against the community or "adds nothing to it."
Then other members who share the same irks begin to agree.
"Second!" "Thirded!" and so on and so forth.
A rational member chimes in.
"Why should he get banned again?"
Mob answers
"Cuz he posts in a way I don't agree and, though not exactly violating TOS, is bad for the 'community.'"
"Oh, I guess that makes sense...if it's for the 'community.'"
Do you see what's going on? Do any of you really think this is a healthy way of thinking? Especially thinking about other people? I really think this is ATOT's greatest flaw as a community: It can't deal with problem members in a social way so they lynch mob up and try to get him/her banned. Ignoring someone, though the most effective way, is never an option.

I don't agree with the guy, but I think banning him is a little extreme. He didn't post porn or offensive material. Just speaking his mind.

Yah getting pulled aside by the mods and being told not to call people out would have been fine. Besides I got a feeling this guy will be back with another name, maybe he has learned his lesson and will return with something to contribute. Everyone would just keep making fun of him anyway.

Those who intentionally defraud the community financially are ostracized, banned, and generally hounded if they dare to set foot in the forums again. Why should an emotional defrauding be any less significant?

True. If my thoughts on what would make anandtech better are held in agreement by the minority perhaps I should go some place else. If, on the other hand, most people agree, then I think there is merit to it. It's almost unfathomable to me that so many people have a laissez fair attitude to others lying, and don't care even when they do it blatantly. The responses are "so what? everyone does it?".I never suggested that anyone be banned, I merely substantiated the sentiment - There is no place for anything else here.

Where there's smoke there's fire In my personal life I absolutely do not associate with people I know to lie. Why should I? I don't lie, so I find it reasonable to hold others to my standards. If somebody lies to any significant degree, as we've seen here, in what way can that person be held accountable in the future? They are, to me at least, worthless in what they say. Unfortunately I can't keep track of everybody! The problem now is that everyone is making mountains out of molehills and things are getting blown way out of proportion.
If you're going to be obnoxious and annoy a good portion of the forums, what is wrong with that portion of the forums asking the moderators for censure?Originally posted by: SackOfAllTrades

Sorry if I wasn't clear, but I wasn't trying to make you an example of what I posted of earlier. If anything it was a tangent off what you said towards my growing concern.
Emotional defrauding should not be less significant, but we must not be so emotionally sensitive to require/demand termination. Remember, in this microcosm, the social code lies in the Terms of Service (or whatever it's called) in which we all agree on. It really is up to the moderators to decide punishment and we must trust the fact that they will do the right thing.

It just seems everyone's out to get someone here...and they dont' wanna do it alone.
