Actually he revealed his true colors early on by insulting General Hardware thread readers with some whiny tirade about how nobody wanted to help him. The responses (I think 4 pages) were truly golden and I had the honor of participating in that glorious moment in time

I remember that... 36 minutes after his original question, he posted "Blah, forget it, another forum that sucks" followed later by a thread titled "What does it take to get responses from you jerks? First post: What is the point of having forums to ask questions when the stuck up regulars dont bother to answer them..."

Apparently, he didn't like regulars from the start

EVEN with a title like that, a few people right off the bat offered to try to find an answer to his problem, then it turned out that his problem had been answered dozens of times, if he had only taken the time to do a search.

Anyway, I'm still wondering which post of Skoorb's I missed that sparked nightraven to whine about him...

and enough with this "noob" crap ... which i might add is the most retarded thing i've ever seen in my entire life ... i read skoorb's thread about banning "liars" ... i personally think it is the most asnine suggestion i have heard yet on this thread ... who cares if someone wants to BS about their life and posessions??? Apparently, that makes some people feel better about themselves ... so let them do it. If you don't feel like responding ... THEN DON'T RESPOND. If you don't feel like reading ... THEN DON'T READ. If you really are that much more mature and intellegent than a "noob" how about acting like it.

Ah, this is the crux of the matter. How can you say that those who reply to threads calling for moderator action aren't just as annoyed by the poster and aren't just out to gang up? Why is one persons opinion on the matter valid but 10-20's a lynching?

Well, this is where it seems tricky.

If "means justify the ends" then all you need it is one person to pm a mod asking the mod to take notice of the behavior. Eventually the person will get banned if violations occur.

If "ends justify the means" then make it an issue and force the mods to ban because they just don't want the 10-20 to keep complaining. The mods did not ban NightRaven because he was a habitual liar. He was banned because he was provoked into making a "call-out" thread of another member, which is forbidden as many have been banned for making those types of threads.

The next question is...who's next? What social quirk will be the next form of contamination to the community? When will be the "BAN Sack cuz he's a pusseee!" thread?

I'd like to point out that if nightraven was banned for making a so called "call-out" thread, skoorb should be as well since his thread was tantamount to one as well.

But then, we need someone to keep a running list of who the liars are... Maybe we could get an "official" thread stickied at the top called "Shenanigans" with simply links to posts and name of poster.

Why, because you realize you are a noob and can't do anything about it?

Anyone on the internet longer than 2 years knows not to put their email address in the body of any message.
You probably wonder why you get so much spam!

It's one thing for people to find someone's far fetched posting humerous. You, the asshat that you are, have to actually take it personally, and try to ban people off a friggin' forum.

Instead of reading up on Skoorb's proposal, I've decided to ban you instead.

AnandTech Moderator

Did i read this correctly, some AnandTech Moderator just banned NightRaven for voicing his harmless opinion just becuase Skoorb is an established member.
(I haven't read or will not read any of this thread, i just was questioning the ban )
If so:

The moderater needs to:

[*]Grow the heck up
[*]Buy some common sense
[*]Get a clue of what's important, priorities, etc

If not, i appologize for the outburst to all parties involved ignore this

If this is the case, this community is pretty pitiful if you keep that moderator or don't re-educate him/her.
If this post is out of line... feel free to Ban me if that is what is needed. Keep in mind i am a contributor here.. not a ranter/flamer.

You missed the drama.

Besides, NightRaven made a personal attack, which is a no-no.

The moderator didn't put a reason; they just said he is banned. Can you not read?

He should have been banned for what he pulled in hardware alone. Seriously this guy had the maturity of a 13 year old tops.

Damn skippy!

For those of you who are search impaired (I know who you are), you can search all of NightRaven's posts by clicking here.

"Besides, NightRaven made a personal attack, which is a no-no."

I whole-heartedly agree that it should not be tolerated. However, it would make more sense and establish credibility if there was consistency. In Skoorb's thread, referenced by NightRaven and others, repeated cases of personal attacks occurred, but nothing was done to the instigators.

SackOfAllTrades, it's a pleasure to meet members willing to reason, rather than jump on the bandwagon. However, I ask myself often: Where are these members to help reinforce positivity to the forum?

It's terrible to see what's happened for the past few weeks or months at this forum. I'm reminded once again of why I originally refrained from posting at AT and joined another forum. In spite of that, at least AT in those days had as many useful information (e.g., solution to math problems, discussion of history, puzzles, games), so one could avoid many puerile posts (which there were in those days). The only reason I returned and post is because ultimately, all forums become the same when overtaken with a high number of membership and viewers. Other forums sound sweet and nice, but it would only last for a short while, for an exodus of people would rush there to enjoy the liberty afforded them. (The smaller the membership, the more tolerant people are.) However, the same liberty they desired, they are intolerant about others exercising it too. The sudden mob mentality grows! Phew! The reasonable members are silenced and fear attacks, so they say nothing. I'm glad I don't personalise the forums and have no intent to even read threads such as this in the next year. Maybe if I should have time next year to participate in any forums, I'll rotate from forum to forum and never read a thread more than once, in order to avoid even recognising nicks or reading crap.

Anyway, glad to see some members speaking out and rationalising. Hope to read more of your posts, SackOfAllTrades.

Yeah, I haven't seen several members here myself (off top of my head...michaelD, notfred, macbaine) few more I haven't mentioned also. Older gentlemen, who've experience life and had really insightful suggestions. Well live and learn..guess we gotta keep up for their slack.
Personally I don't think I can join another forum.... I really found a home in ATOT and i love it for what it is and not what I wished it would be when I joined.
