SLI 8800gs vs. single 4850

Which setup would yield better performance? I am looking to build a low budget rig for light gaming, and i will be gaming in just a small 20 inch monitor. What setup would be better, i am looking at two of these 8800gs or just a single 4850. Thanks for looking guys.

I used to run two 8800gs in sli - they overclock well too. It's pretty fast. You might consider 9600gt or 8800gt sli.

if you don't already have an 8800GS i would find it hard to recommed any SLI setup in your price range. a 4850 would probably be the best choice unless you're willing to drop 150 or more on a 4870 or gtx260.

Eh, I wouldn't go dual card if you didn't have to. What's your budget? Definitely get the 4850 over 8800GS SLI - the extra RAM is more than worth it for today's games.

I like what you recommended, the 9800gt setup would be great, I got a good deal on a couple of 8800gs's ($86) and they are the old 384mb versions. Much better compared to the newer 512mb-1gb versions that are dumbed down. Now i am just thinking that i could sell the gs's and maybe get something else such as the 4850 or just wait it out for the prices of the gtx260's to go down. However what you recommend is not bad at all i may be looking at those instead of a 4850. The rig is mainly only going to be used for WoW and Sc2, maybe throw some shooters here an there but by all means i don't expect this thing to run crysis smoothly.

SLI 8800gs' are pretty darn good, and definitely play Crysis just fine.

The only disadvantages are the lower memory and higher power consumption.

video memory shouldn't be too much of an issue with wow, i would think. <$90 is a pretty good price for the two 8800's. it will be faster than a 4850 until you get to higher resolutions and AA levels. even then, they should hang fairly close to the fastest 512mb cards.

unless you wanna pay a good bit more for a 1gb (or, well .9gb) card, i'd take the 8800's if you have a good psu and sli mobo.

4770 is your best option.

Aren't the 9600gso's basically 8800gss re branded, I would think with a slight overclock i could get the 8800gs' to perform close to 8800gt's which in turn would definitely be on par with a 4870 at my resolution. I guess it would be smart to just keep my gs' and what should my minimum psu be to run those two cards?
