Hey guys, I have an Asus SLI-Deluxe mobo, and I just recently noticed a loud buzzing sound coming from the case. After inspecting it, I found out its the motherboard chipset fan creating all the sound. What can I do to fix the problem, or if anything can be done? Right now I am thinking about buying a chipset cooler and replacing this one, what are your thoughts ?

Wow never thought its that serious, thought I was the only one. Thanks for the link I guess I am going to have to replace this thing as its more noisy then everything in my case put together x10. Are there any other Asus SLI chipset coolers that fit nicely besides the zalman? Also will I get better temps with a add on chipset cooler?

Thanks.

I just installed a CoolerMaster PAC-P01 heatsink.
It's very much like the Zalman, but it's slightly shorter and has a flat top so it shouldn't interfere with any card.

Here is a picture with it installed and a Leadtek 6600Gt:

It does get VERY warm, but it is a much bigger/better heatsink than the one included with the board. I hope it's ok. Another thing I like about this heatsink vs the Zalman is that it's the exact same blue as the other plastic parts/slots on the board

Ahh nice mod sharp. By VERY warm, do you mean its much hotter then the stock ASUS fan? How much degree's C are you getting for temperature with the cooler master?

The heatsink gets fairly hot to the touch.
The stock heatsink with the fan off got much hotter though.
I dont know the exact temperature as I dont have a probe.
AsusProbe says 34C for MB temperature, but that is not the temperature of the southbridge.
Everything is 100% stable. There is no way I would put that old hsf on again. It's too noisy, not too mention it will die soon anyway (as has happened to many).
I might get a 40mm fan and attach to the top of this heatsink. That would be ideal. It would be quieter and definately cooler than the stock one.
