SLOW downloads using wireless connection

Hi, is there anyone out there than can help me out? I'm on my 700m and downloads are slow and erratic on it. I'm right next to my router, and connected at 54mbps. Theoretically, that should be able to handle all of the bandwith my cablemodem throws at it. However, downloading from microsoft (which has fast servers) I only get ~200k. With uploadhut.com, it gives me 500k (my max for cable d/l). Also, at the other end of the house, I still get 11mbps connetion. But my downloads continue to be slow. 11mbps is more than enough to take advantage of my cablemodem speed. Someone please offer some suggestions. I have my firewall on, but i don't think thats the issue. With my wired computers, I get max download from all those sites. Something about wireless zero config, or that 10% upload that goes to windows update? Also, any router settings I can mess with?

Thanks in advance.

Depending on the time of day, the file(s) I am downloading, the phases of the moon, and a variety of other variables, I have gotten anywhere from 10K to 500K+ downloads from Microsoft. The fact that your computer is able to get 500K downloads from uploadhut.com tells me that your connection is probably fine, and you're simply not getting a "maxed" download from Microsoft...

To rule out the site you're downloading from as the source of the slowdown, go to dslreports.com and use their line testing tools to check your link speed on each of your connections.

If you're getting a 54Mb connection in one location and an 11Mb connection in another, I assume you're running your wireless router in mixed mode. That's going to slow you down some all by itself. Another important thing to check for is other wireless networks running around you. I've got 6 within 100 yards of my router. Make sure you are at least 2 channels away from any of them, if possible.

The 11mbps connection is from your pc to your router, not router to internet. u can set 3mbps it still will not affect ur internet speed.
