Slow Startup Time

My 2 1/2 year old desktop PC has progressively been getting slower and slower on startup. Today, it took nearly 10 minutes to restart, load startup applications, and get up to a normal speed. Once it gets going, it runs relatively fine.

Does anyone know what is causing such a slow startup?

Here are some stats:
AMD Athlon 64 3800+
Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
Corsair XMS 1GB (2x512MB) DDR400
Seagate Barracuda 200GB 7,200rpm
BFG Tech GeForce 7900GT 256MB
Windows XP Professional w/ SP2

One place to start is to run "msconfig" and see how many programs are under the startup tab. Then you can uncheck programs you know you aren't using anymore.
