Intel had the 820, 830, 840 and 840EE out before the X2. Where are the posts for the overclocking results?

There are some at the more iNtel friendly sites...PPL here are too smart even the intel faithful realize to sit this one out and wait for the dual core dothan style desktop offering....

I bet when it is all done here there will be at least 10 to 1 in X2 versus P D systems...

I am surprised I haven't seen the 820's with all the ppl who cried the iNtel was better priced.....I guess maybe they are hard to get, or hard to cool still...Who knows...

THG said there was much greater availability of the Pentium D's. Maybe that's not the case?
Them being wrong/saying something just to show Intel bias wouldn't be a first.

I think everyone's waiting for Dothan (AKA "The Beast"), Yonah or the Napa platform.

Yeah we all know that...anyone who could use pricewatch will see some retailers have them....

the question is why are we seeing threads and users talking about them???

Would you really want one anyhow ? Whats the lowest priced X2 ? if it competes with the D's then whats the point. If none of the above is true then Im sorry.

Headroom on those suckers wont be magical, unlike the X2's. Might get an 4800+ X2 ( No i dont overclock) or FX 57, it's the first time I can recall not even considering an Intel product.

Price ( Well...See Zebo's spreadsheet for the reason why it's priced the way it is)
Performance
Heat
Underdog
Plus X2 sounds better then " Pentium D" or "Smithfield" - sounds like a farm.

I'd love to know how the tests on 300mm wafers on the 65nm process is going on in FAB 36, 3 Ghz X2 by the time yonah's out I bet, so dont bet on Intel just yet.

Yes, and that's why you're telling folks you have a X2. Why did you not buy a Pentium D? Can you every write more than one sentence or back-up anything you say? Most trolls disappear but you must like being considered a joke here.

But I digress. Actually, a number of folks have Pentium D's but are posting in ocforums and xtremesystems. We all know if anyone posted about their Pentium D, the folks/fanboys would give them crap.

From what I've read, folks are getting 830's to 3.6ghz stable on air and over 4ghz w/ water.

Wow, how long does it take to boil an 8oz glass of water placed behind the exhaust fan of the PSU?

I was going to get a PD 820 system about a month ago, or whenever those things first became available, because I thought the X2s weren't going to be available until late this year, and I needed a new computer "now." Fortunately, I heard (and believed) rumors that the X2s would be out much sooner than that, and I decided to wait a few weeks and spend a bit more to get something much better.

Well, the performance increase of the 820s isn't all that great. They're greatly outperformed by the X2s, and for most things an overclocked single core athlon would be much better. The X2 allows the best of both worlds though, top end performance now, and top end multithreaded performance as well.

I think you'll find that the X2 4200+ is about 10% faster than the 840 in 3DSMax, and significantly cheaper...

If I didn't have to replace my motherboard, I would almost consider getting one and overclocking since I already have water cooling, but for now it's not worth the price to go from a 3.4ghz single core @3.82ghz, to a much slower more expensive 2.8ghz dual core that won't likely reach speeds anywhere near 3.8.

Slower? Do you mean clockspeed? Not to be obtuse but "so what"? Unless you do nothing but streaming, the P4 will still run slower...

He's talking about a Pentium D 820 and not a X2. This is a thread about Pentium D's, not a thread to question people's decisions. A lot of folks are happy with their Intel dual cores and that's all that matters.

Ummm...no. He's talking about his own rig which is a P4 3.4E@3.82Ghz(225x17)

Oops...OIC what you mean...I'll just crawl back into this bottle for awhile, K? ;-)
