Where are my tray prices!!

I need to scheme.

Yeh, me too. Although if and when the time comes, I still really like the i7 920 value proposition. I can't ever justify spending north of $1K on a CPU, I'm not a high-roller.

My usual limit is $350.

If i can aim for 4.5ghz with HT on water for $350 on the CPU. I'll bite.

Wuss, crank the bclk or gtfo!

Beat me to it!

My stuff comes in a box with notes telling me what it does so I can plug and play but sometimes I like to push the limits - immediately.

I know there's a 5GHz W3520 that should be MINE still sitting in Miami.

I'm willing to settle for dual hexcore Xeons at 4GHz I suppose. <shudder>

Shens...

16 degrees Celsius = 60.8 degrees Fahrenheit

Either it's cold in your house or i call BS because i know you aren't running active cooling yet.

Dang that would be cold inside his house. Or if he's under water, maybe he has his rad in an ice bucket?

i think the tjmax on the 32nm chips in real temp is off, i think it comes in default 75 or something, but when you add about 5c, it seems more accurate.

I just saw another 32nm hex core Xeon on water, and whoa and behold CoreTemp GT seems to be claiming the same temps as that 980x of yours :hmm:

I hope they get that fixed in the retail silicon :\

People the purpose of the sensor is NOT to measure temperature like a rectal thermometer! (sorry for the anal reference) This output is used for monitoring thermal transfer performance as well as a fail safe in case environmental issues or cooling system failure or reduction of performance (fan goes out etc.) comes into play while the system is running.

As long as it's stable and you don't see sparks flying out of the socket you'll be fine.

Meh so i did a temporary lazy man OC.

Im not going to get great scores from the low bclk.
I would need to play with bclk which would also require me to play with ram timings, and then voltages, and then motherboard voltages...

So for now all u guys get is a lazy overclock.... (multi only)

Sorry im playing with a new cpu block right now.

The far left one... Its koolances new KL-360. :X
The block i used to get those temp numbers.

Yeah a lot of EE (extreme edition) users are doing that. Find your sweet spot with ram BCLK, etc. and fine tune from there. It's fun, eh?

Although sometimes one wants to go for the throat and eliminate potential RAM/IOH/PLL issues and see what the cores/cache can muster. With a brand new CPU I'd favor this. Of course everything I procure goes through a broker who is also a fanatical overclocker/engineer so I get "time slips" with all my hardware knowing what its capabilities are beforehand. I always "go behind" his work and see how hard stuff is pushed and it's very consistent and good. He used to tease me with higher numbers from using water/cascade/dry ice (sorry I refuse to type dice - I don't like craps!) but I complained because I will never be allowed to use any of those.

Although I do plan to hitch the H50 up with its radiator in an ice bucket!

ROFL yes, no sparks, please. Smoke is also kind of a bummer.

Man, fresh out of the fab! Some of these people are so leading edge it's sick.

so as for results. Currently at 4 GHz, 30x133. Needs a bit more vcore than I would have though though. I will try to get higher later. PS, I believe the stepping is B1, according to source. CPUz doesn't know that though.

A few questions for the more experienced gulftown users...Is going a bit over 1.4 Vcore usually safe for these chips? I understand it wasn't for the A0's, but I hope they have come a long way I currently set vcore to around 1.36 in bios, there is a bit of vdroop on my board. My 920 D0 needed just over 1.4 V for 4.2, but the temps were much higher. I hope that this chip can clock much better.

FYI, I am still using the TRUE for now, will put it on water once I get a reservoir.
