So which RPG should I play next:

FFXII

Mass Effect

Fall Out 3

Please note, I didn't really care for Morrowind.

I would go for Mass Effect. I disliked Fallout 3 immensly and haven't played FF12 yet but every FF I have every played has ranged from just being a good RPG to a stellar RPG so can't go wrong with that either.

You guys comparing it to Morrowind, you know Morrowind can be beaten in well under 10 minutes if you want, right? Fallout seemed to be the same type of game, you can play through it as quickly or slowly as you want, it depends on how much exploring you want to do. I haven't picked it up yet (I almost never buy games when they are $50) but I watched a buddy play it for a while.

The problem with Fallout 3 is that the main quest is short and extremely stupid (IMO) and you can't continue onto the side quests once the main storyline is complete. A lot of the negative comments and reviews are from players who missed fairly large portions of the content, and they could have done a better job of gating the storyline until the player had completed X% of the side quests or something. A couple of expansion packs and some reworking of the main story arc and gating by level would probably bump it up from a 3/5 to a 5/5 for me.

I envy the people who liked Morrowind and Oblivion, I'm just too much of a min-maxer at heart to be okay with skill points being weighted based on the skills I have used that level. I ended up spending more time trying to grind skill points in the optimal manner than actually playing either game and that really defeated the whole point.

I just can't get into this game. I thought I'd be pretty immersed when seeing the atmosphere. However, I find all the RPG stuff significantly slows the pace of this game down (at least for me personally). I've played probably 6 - 7 hours now and I'm kind of slogging through it. And I don't like that every time I turn around I've got to fight a stupid giant bug of some sort or a rabid mole w/ little or no ammo....

For Oblivion I could see why this would be true, as monsters level up with you and wasted skill points will put you at a disadvantage...

However, for Morrowind, everything is static so there is nothing to worry about. I always level freely with little to no planning and end up a powerful character anyway.

This can only be accomplished by taking advantage of some of the broken mechanics of Morrowind while completing skipping the main quest. You are really beating the game, just manipulating the game in a way that allows you to beat the boss of the MQ early in the game.

Also, this only works for the MQ of Morrowind as far as I know. I think they made the storylines of the expansions more linear, which makes skipping ahead harder.

Morrowind had much more to do and a much, much more detailed and interesting world/environment.

You end up with a powerful character, but not necessarily the exact character that you wanted which is part of the draw of RPGs for me.

I love Fallout 3, maybe its because fallout one is one of my top 3 games of all time. Oblivion sucked, i thought it was awesome at first but the leveling system is a joke. I played fallout 3 for at least 80 hours on the PS3 and just recently installed it on my PC and am going to try the mods and DLC. They need to make it multiplayer.

Ah, I understand then.

If you are aiming for a certain build, then the leveling system of both Oblivion and Morrowind can be really irritating.

I'd play this game but I can't get the game to stop crashing to the desktop, I applied the 1.4 patch, I switched from nvidia to ati (not because of the game but that rules out driver problems since it crashed on nvidia and now it crashes on ati), I uninstalled any remnants of ffdshow (some codec pack though ffdshow wasn't actually being used) and I even tried reinstalling the game (which seemed to solve the problem last night and today morning I open the game and bam, crash).

I don't know what else to do, fate doesn't want me playing western RPGs as Mass Effect was unbearably buggy to the point of being unplayable.

I just exited megaton and have to find Galaxy Radio but on the wastelands I can't stop crashing, sometimes I'll last 10 minutes, other just 2 minutes and other times I'll just press continue, the game will load a black screen and bam, CTD.

P.D: I have one last hope, reinstalling the game on Vista, it's currently on XP but reinstalling on Vista fixed ME for me so I still have hope though rebooting would be a bitch, I never use Vista.

I just scratched my head at that more than anything else. The whole situation made no sense (you just took out a small army of the enclave troops, and there was no good reason why a few more of them or a glass door should pose any threat), and was one of many problems with the main quest. The story has a lot of things like this that lack plausibility, although from looking over the Fallout wiki, some of them were carried over from the previous games.

That being said, FO3 has become my favorite game from the last three or four years, despite its huge number of issues. The wide variety of excellent side quests easily make up for the weak main quest. If you use appropriate mods and treat the side quests as the main part of the game, it can be a lot of fun. Many aspects of the gameplay actually reminded me of Deus Ex.

Excellent side quests??? They were all standard fare and boring. Go kill these bugs. Go rescue that person. Main quest sucked too. Nothing about this game was revolutionary or fun. It was boring.

So I just finnished it. Wow, I was having a blast from about halfway through, at the start I didn't know what I was doing and I thought it was a bit meh- but after that I got into then BAM! it ends, wtf? I too felt like doing the side quests was a waste of time so most of the time I didn't do them or when some snot nosed kid came up to me wanting stuff I'd just blow off his head- loved that aspect of the Fallout 3. I guess I should probably do another play through and play differently I still dont feel like I have any interest looking for and doing side quests.

Solid 8/10 IMO- not gods gift to gaming like some reviews have it as.

so, i'm about half-way thru the game. after a couple nights of casual play and 2 hard, i've suddenly lost interest. it's too repetitive. i thought oblivion sucked donkey balls, and this was noticably better. still short on lockpicks, tho. an mmo is several years away, right?

I dont know where you buy lockpicks, and after i discovered VATS i never had a problem with ammo. Close this distance and blow your limb of choice off its awesome

Yeah I didn't have the patience for this either. I never had enough money/lockpicks/ammo, etc. And why is it when I tried to use VATS, either a) my enemies would take 5 point blank shots to the head/arm and be dismembered on the last one instead of immediately or b) I would go to limit use of someone's limb and I don't have enough "energy" (I know that's not the word) or whatever to take more than like 2 shots when I need 3 or 4 to do the job.....

A:
You cant dismember enemies, only corpses. Limbs only come off after the target has ran out of HP, though you can cripple limbs before they die. So it took you 5 point blank shots to kill the target (turn it into a corpse) which on the killing blow took off a limb(s).

B:
Actions in VATS requires the use of Action Points (AP). It is increased by raising agility, some perks, or chems. Certain guns take more to fire than others. Example I can fire 6 shots with a 9mm pistol but only 2 with a combat shotgun.
